I looked up the Davies name in the Portland, Maine city directories. I could not find any Davies, but I did find a John Davis fisherman and John Davis cordwainer in 1837. In the next directory in 1844, there is a John J. Davis, shoe dealer. I photocopied the pages, if you would like me to drop them in the mail to you.
