Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/JEB.2ACE/372.2.1.2 Message Board Post: Pam, It appears this was a family fued at one point :-). Here's what I was told: there were two CURIT families (probably lines), one from Freeport, the other from Yarmouth. As these towns are next to each other, I find it hard to believe they aren't from the same line somewhere... Anyway, the two had nothing to do with each other, at least since the 1940's or so. The father of the woman I work with did hang around with a cousin Harland, but not your Harland. Interestingly, I checked the phone book and there are a quite a few CURITS in Freeport, a couple in Yarmouth, one in Falmouth (Chebeague Island) and a bunch in Portland. If you aren't familiar with the area, the towns run Freeport, Yarmouth, Cumberland, Falmouth and Portland, from north to south. Not much else I can add, other than I could find birth certificates and such for you if it would be of help to you. I ought to be able to locate most pretty easily as you have approximate dates of birth from the censuses. Let me know if you need some help :-). Sean

If it is not done, then you can order the film from a FHL for the incomplete years of that town/city... here is my personal homepage URL... http://groups.msn.com/GENEALOGYGENERAL/index.msnw Click on the State of MAINE (on the sidebar) and then click on the county of interest (again, on the sidebar)... then follow the directions as posted... happy hunting, bye dave. ps: please let me know if you find a bad link...

    1. [MECUMBER] Seeking Children of Benjamin RICH (b. ca 1773) & Rachel CATES/COATES (b. ca 1777)
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Stuart, Rich Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/JEB.2ACE/373 Message Board Post: Need help to verify my connections! Benjamin RICH was b. ca 1773 in ME (or maybe MA), the son of Ezekiel & Sarah [STEVENS] RICH. He m. Rachel CATES/COATES (or even possibly GATES). She was b. ca 1777 in ME (or maybe MA). From 1800 on, they lived in Cumberland Co., ME -- first in Philip's Gore, and then in Harrison Twp. from 1820 on, where I believe they also died. My husband's ggg-g'parents were Josiah Alden & Miriam/Marion STUART, also of Harrison Twp., Cumberland Co., ME. According to the death certificate of Moses Hanscomb STUART (my hubby's gg-g'father) and the Stewart Clan Magazine archives, Miriam/Marion's maiden name was RICH. I believe that Miriam RICH is the daughter of Benjamin & Rachel [CATES/COATES] RICH. Miriam/Marion RICH was b. ca 1800-1802 in Cumberland Co., ME. She was married by 1830, and this is when Josiah A. STUART first shows up in the Census for that year living right next to Benjamin RICH & family. The two families live very close to one another in 1840, also. I am hoping that someone out there has a complete listing of ALL of the children of Benjamin & Rachel [CATES/COATES] RICH. The names I have do not include a Miriam or Marion. However, a complete search of the Census records for 1810 thru 1840 show less than 5 RICH families living in close enough proximity to be considered candidates for Miriam's family. And of those few, only Benjamin RICH is old enough to have a daughter Miriam's age. Any/all responses greatly appreciated! You may post here, or email me directly at the address shown. If using email, please put "RICH in ME" in the subject line. THANKS!!

    1. [MECUMBER] OBIT: James D. "MOUSE"
    2. N P Maling
    3. Found this in the Portland, Maine, Daily Eastern Argus. Big, BIG news! "OBITUARY. "The following mousic obituary is taken from the Portsmouth Evening Times. "In this city, Dec. 1st, "James D." mouse, owned by Mr. James D. Potter, (colored) of this city, formerly of Portland, and, at the age of 4 1/2 years of old age and paralysis of the heart. This was a common gray mouse which Mr. Potter had trained and exhibited in many cities in this country and Canada. The mouse was forwarded to Boston by express this morning to be stuffed and when returned will be placed in the little cage which has been his home for 4 years. The mouse will then be forwarded to Portland when the funeral will be held in City Hall. A special invitation has been extended to Chandler's band and Neal Dow to be present. The mouse was insured in Chicago for one hundred dollars and Mr. Potter says he would not have taken $500 for it, and will wear mourning all over his face as long as he lives. (Montreal, Chicago and Portland papers please copy." Daily Eastern Argus (Portland, Maine), 6 December 1882, page 1, column 7
