Barbara, I have found William & family in the 1870 census if you would like to have the image let me know. ~ Sherrie
I'm researching the family of William THOMAS and Mary Ann Stephens, who emigrated from Wales to South Portland (Ligonia Village) about 1869. In particular, I'm searching for the marriage of their daughter, Margaret Thomas to John R. Lewis around 1881-1882. She was enumerated with her family in 1880; my grandmother was born September 1882, supposedly in Chicago, IL. I've found marriages of three of her siblings in the transcriptions of Cape Elizabeth Deaths, Births, and Intentions of Marriage, but have been unable to locate a marriage record for Margaret, either in Cape Elizabeth or in Chicago/Cook County IL. Any advice on other sources for finding Margaret's marriage would be greatly appreciated. Barbara Barnes

Many thanks, Sherrie. Your help is appreciated. Your census information fills in another blank in my search for Helena THOMPSON BARTLETT. I am quite sure now that she is my grandmother's sister. Their parents died in New Brunswick at a young age and the children were "farmed out". I am not sure how Helena got to Maine or with whom. The other two remained in New Brunswick (Augusta Thompson LAVERTY and Bruce THOMPSON). Her sad little letter states that she is to be married to a "fine rich gentleman". Warren BARTLETT was a widower when they married in 1893. Daughter, Edith, b. 1896 married Earl Linwood HUTCHINSON 3 Jul 1913. I have no information on other children. Does anyone have anything on other family members? This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/JEB.2ACE/482 Message Board Post: I'm happy to announce a new Special Project, the Maine Family Group Sheet (FGS) project. It's my privilege to be managing it, and I hope to be very busy adding family group sheets submitted by all of you. The URL for the page is http://www.rootsweb.com/~usfgs/maine/ . I think you'll find the page easy to read and use, but if you have any questions or concerns, please let me know. The USFGS home page ( http://www.rootsweb.com/~usfgs/ ) links to all the states that have a family group project. I hope you'll take advantage of this new project. Those of us who have been working to bring it to Maine are very excited about its possibilities. Any family group that lived in Maine, even for a short time, can be posted. THE ONLY MAINEANS WHO CANNOT BE POSTED ARE THOSE WHO ARE LIVING. Each family group sheet provides space for basic information about father, mother, and children; so if you only know about one family unit, you know enough to put the information up. If you know more, you can add more family group sheets: the father's parents and siblings, the mother's parents and siblings, the children's spouses and children, and on and on. If you've traced the family on into Kansas, Colorado, and Oregon, you can post your group sheet in those states as well as Maine. But just one family sheet in one state can be enough to make new and exciting connections. We've prepared the pages and forms, added search engines and links, and now it's in your hands. Send in your family group sheets. One a day, one a week, whatever works for you. Tell your fellow researchers about the site. Talk about it at your next genealogical society meeting. Mention it in your emails. The more people hear about the site, the more contributions we're likely to get; and the more contributions we receive, the more valuable the project is going to be. I'll be waiting for your family to turn up in my mailbox! You will be thinking it is time I bought the census book instead of asking for lookups so often! Not sure if these folks are still in Cumberland in 1900. Warren BARTLETT and Helena THOMPSON, both of Raymond ME, were married in Gray 19 Aug 1893. They later lived in Mechnic's Falls (looks like Androscoggin Co. on my map?). Helena died in Lewiston hospital in 1923 and is buried in Raymond. I have her marriage and death certificates but would very much like to find details of her family. If only the 1890 census had not disappeared! I have a letter written by Helena to her sister (my grandmother) in New Brunswick in 1891 from Gray ME. Her writing and spelling are very poor but she asks to have her mail directed to "Grady Man Miss Helena M. Thompson in care of Mr.(or Mrs.) Avelen (or Auelen) Aporaled". Any ideas? For years I thought she was in Manitoba! Thanks in advance. I am so grateful to the subscribers to this list for assistance with my brick walls. Regards, Dawn Laverty Matheson Belleville, Ontario
