Hi fellow researchers, This is the first time posting in Maine BUT when all other dead ends hit more Brick walls, it is time to go by hunches and place of birth. I am trying to locate information on a WALKER WILMOT, who lived in Portland Maine about 1840 (he was a defendant in the court system for debts). This is a long shot on my part but it is definately, more than I have now. From my history our ALEXANDER WALTER WILMOT was born in Maine August 1847 in Rockland or Augusta and by 1880 was in New Jersey. He named one of his sons WALTER but called him WALKER. Also am trying to follow another lead of a WALKER WILMOT in Maryland in the 1860's. As I said these are long shots, trying to find my Wilmot's parents. (We are not exactly sure if he was WILMOT or WILLMOT diferent documents spell it different, his descendants have all spell it with 2 L"s ). Any recomendations, or any Wilmot's that may have come from these area's, please drop me a note. Thanks, May God Bless, Deb

About 16 years ago he lived in Sebring, FL, and was sick with emphysema. Harry and Rose Hubbard were very old when I met them for the first and last time (30+/- years ago), but they were so sweet. Hello, everyone!! Earlier today, I was looking through my pictures, only to find one that struck me a good bit! The picture was taken in 1934 with 4 people in it-my dad, his cousin, and her husband, and Aola Haskell. My dad, Russell Kenneth Fortune, was adopted by Henry Thomas Fortune and Anna Marie Anderson. His birth parents were Frank M. Haskell and Queenie Hathaway; it appears that they never married. I just found out, last summer, the name of daddy's birth father, so was unaware the rest of my life the name connection between him and this good friend of my dad's. I would like to know if anyone is aware of Aola Haskell-as well as any possible connection she may have to my dad's birth father. Wouldn't it be something to find that daddy and Aola were related-and they never even knew about it!?! Any response would be welcome-and thanks in advance!! Nona Lightner nonamarie@earthlink.net

Only a few states survived and Maine was not one of them. The Veterans' Census was an excerpt of the 1890 census and lists all living Civil War Veterans or their widows if they were still living and the veteran was not. I checked Ancestry for Warren Bartlett and there were 2 but neither was married to a Helena. One was 56 and single, the other was married to a Nancy. Neither was in Cumberland County. There were no Helena Bartletts in Maine. Wish I could be more help.
