    3. Why would a membership in a Connecticut library be helpful with families in Maine since 1802 or early and originally from Massachusetts? I have access to the census images thru both ancestry and proquest if that's the reason. The Paul you found is Paul Jr, son of Paul Sr the Lt in Harpswell in the War of 1812 and the Active you found is Active Irwin , son of the Active I listed. I have seen the census listings you mentioned, but thank you for looking. Im actually looking to talk with someone working on this particular line. I'm trying to hammer out some wrinkles in it and was hoping to find someone working on the same wrinkles. The only mention I have of this is in a poem by Emily M Rice, published in the Halifax newspaper, that says "[in Portland] ... he was killed by falling iron, cut off without a word..." I am trying to find out who Emily is so that I can determine her connection with Joseph. The language of the poem seems to imply that he connection is with Portland rather than Halifax...

The only mention I have of this is in a poem by Emily Rice, published in the Halifax newspaper, that says "... he was killed by falling iron, cut off without a word..." So the question, does anyone have access to news papers in Portland that might have an account of whatever occurred, which we assume from that hint was a construction accident of some sort? It would have appeared in the next edition after February 13, but I don't know if there was a daily paper at that time, or whether it was less frequent. If anyone knows, what is the name of a paper from that time? Does that paper have an archive?

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: ROSE Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/JEB.2ACE/526 Message Board Post: Have hit a brick wall with the following family: George ROSE (born 1824 Bristol, England) and his wife Mary (maiden name not yet known, born about 1835 - likely born in Nova Scotia of Scottish parents). They were married approx. in the mid-1850's, place unknown. The Children of George & Mary ROSE were: George Alexander ROSE born 1858 Mary Christina ROSE born 1860 Margaret Matilda ROSE born 1862 George ROSE was a British seaman - likey Navy rather than merchant, and travelled extensively. The three children were born in Singapore. According to the 1880 census George & Mary and their two daughters were living in Portland, Cumberland Co, Maine. George, age 56 has occupation listed as "Beaman" - this possibly should read 'seaman'. Margaret Matilda ROSE, 18 years old is a milliner, and Mary Christina ROSE, 17 years old is a dressmaker. Would love to know if there are any Maine marriages recorded for the daughters & son of this family, or deaths for the parents. Any and all leads would be greatly appreciated.
