Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/JEB.2ACE/224.2 Message Board Post: I know how hard it is to research from afar, and perhaps this is not much help. The Mormon church has a wonderful site it is famiilysearch.org. That site lists all their family history centers and you can get local films of just about any town sent to the local library( Family History Center) from Utah for a very small cost. About $4 per roll of film. This is so much better than distance travel and perhaps there is one close enough for you to use. Also You can try, Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness, and USgenweb.com and Interlibrary loan at your local library may be able to help you out. There are more and more free sites with great information( in addition to all the questionable "stuff ") just keep trying Good luck Hattie My goal is to retire and move into a house across the street from a Family History Center. Hope this helps, Hattie

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/JEB.2ACE/241.1 Message Board Post: Hi Brooke, I lived on Falmouth Foreside, Me., outside if Portland. I knew of Oscar Fredriksen, Karl m. to Jane Storer I believe. I believe Oscar L. Fredriksen still lives on 16 Depot Rd., Falmouth Foreside, ME. I can give you the telephone # if you write me. He would probably be able to give you any history you might need. I looked in the little book the Falmouth public library just put out "Made of Dreams" The Falmouth Memorial Library's First 50 Years is all about the and they do mention Karl Fredriksen of the American Legion Post. I know that the public library would certainly have information as this book is all about the Danes that settled in Falmouth. I also will send this note to a friend who has an Aunt (96) who is in this book and would know about the Fredriksens. Good luck with your search. The Falmouth Library has a web site http://www.falmouth.lib.me.us and I'm sure they would be glad to help you. Lynde Randall Yarmouth, Maine

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/JEB.2ACE/241 Message Board Post: I am looking for information about my great uncle Oscar. He lived in Falmouth Forside, just outside of Portland, Maine. He was born in Norway (where, I don't know) in the late 1800's. He was one of 14 children. His father was a sea captain and friend of Raol Amundsen, the great explorer.   Oscar was a chauffer for a wealthy widow in Portland. He had three sons. Oscar, Jr., Robert and Carl. Oscar's brother, Fred, was a landscape designer and designed the landscaping around Casco Bay in Portland. He disappeared from the area in the 1940's. I am particularly interested in information regarding where Oscar was born in Norway. Thank you for your help.

    3. I looked up the Davies name in the Portland, Maine city directories. I could not find any Davies, but I did find a John Davis fisherman and John Davis cordwainer in 1837. In the next directory in 1844, there is a John J. Davis, shoe dealer. I photocopied the pages, if you would like me to drop them in the mail to you. Brown in 1941. Their friends the Mortensens (distant family) were well known for taking in orphans...and they seem to have been Danish or Norwegian. I have been fruitless in finding any members of this family; I found a family bible at the dump years ago and have searched for some clues ever since. If this helps you at all I would be so happy.

    2. Martha Schreffler
    3. I'm seeking to verify the presence and dates of James Connor(Connors/Conner) and his family in Maine. James Connor (b. Ireland) m. Sarah Tracey (b. Rhode Island) Son George Alexander Connor was born 1 May 1825 at Fort Scammell, Portland, Cumberland County, Maine. Son William E. Connor born 28 November 1826 at Fort Preble, Portland, Cumberland County, Maine. I'm assuming James was a soldier as his children were born at Forts. If there are any army rosters or records of births that could verify the above information, I'd appreciate a look-up! :) Martha Schreffler
