Author: SUGARWINGS2001 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.meador/502.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Nehemiah Meador was the grandfather of my grandmother. I am a descendant of Mary Meador Bridges. Nehemiah has been a mystery to me as well. I was told by my great aunt that Nehemiah was originally buried in a cemetery that later became part of the Pomm De Terre Lake. His remains were dug up and reburied at Hopewell cemetery outside of Urbana, Missouri. His wife, Lucy is buried there and at the foot of her grave is a small marker for his remains. Since Lucy was buried after Nehemiah's remains were moved to this location, I am not sure why the children didn't choose to include his name and information on the stone with Lucy. I would also like to know how he died at such a young age. When my grandmother, Christena Huckaby, passed away we found several photos of Lucy and her children but as far as I am aware, there were no photos of Nehemiah. I would love to see what he looked like since all of his sons were very handsome. Good luck on your research. Hopefully one day we will bo! th find someone who knows more about this man. Yes, its pretty amazing what you find. I took no concern to your comment. Though we are dealing with "family" we realize there all all kinds of family issues that exists in all of our stories. I like what one of my favorite Bible teachers said, read Genesis and you will be introduced to the first dysfunctional family, daytime TV has got nothing new. THis information is VERY HELPFUL... WOW, I'm sure my mom did not come across the 1910 OK Census. Several points you made helped fill in some gaps and untangled the knot. I would love to learn more, so please send me whatever you think will help me fill in this gap with William J and his family. Based on what I have seen, it looks like Reason M has significant records on here, I have just been reluctant to dive in because of the confusion around William J and the 1900 OK death and knowing he died in Texas in 1906. I certainly understand your point about the possible confusion. I really appreciate your willingness to share this work with me. My email is [email protected] Again, thank you for this info, VERY HELPFUL!!! Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: @@[email protected] Surnames: Meador, Dudney Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.meador/943.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Paul, I hope I didn't seem insensitive when I mentioned the incident surrounding Wm. J. and Martha's death. Just about everyone has something similar in their lives. I have more than one! I'm trying to go through my records and find some documentation for you that has proof of Reason M. Meador as the father of William J. The original research that I have for the entire family was done back in the 1950's & 1960's by my uncle. If I remember correctly, he corresponded with some descendants of Reason's first family and that's how he got the information. I tried getting in touch with some of them and failed, but I did get some indirect information from them through other people. I have a few pages from a typewritten genealogy called "The Genealogies of Barnes Dudney" -- perhaps it's not proof, but it certainly points that way. An interesting letter said to be from William J. Meador's sister Mary E. (Meador) Dudney to George Vine Meador (son of Reason by his 2nd wife) reads in part ".I had a letter from Mat (probably William J's wife although their other sister was also a Martha) a few days ago...She said Billie was well fixed and said he was so fat I would not know him. Said he was full of whiskey all the time." This document also states that "Mary E. Meador was the second child of Reason Mobley Meador and Sarah Stults Meador". I believe that information is incorrect. I believe she was the daughter of Reason and his first wife, also named Sarah, but last name unknown-some have said Smith, but I've found no credible ev! idence of that. Two of Wm. J.'s children are with Mary in the 1910 census, Roger Mills Co., OK. I found an obituary for Mary on the Navarro County, Texas Genweb, and the notes following the obituary name her parents as Reason Mobley & Sarah (nee unk) Meador. It's not clear to me who wrote the notes and it says it came from Roger Mills [OK] archives (Genweb). For more information about William J. and Mattie's death, check newspapers from the Dallas Morning News of the time. They can be found on Genealogy Bank. Also, I found some information in Navarro Leaves and Branches, the publication of the Navarro County Gen. Society issue of February 1998 titled "Remembrances of the Gillen Family". I can send you some of these things, but for some reason, I can't get your e-mail address - Ancestry won't show it (they used to-maybe they changed that policy). I'm not a member, but I have a few privileges so I can post messages at least. So, if you want me to send some things, write me at [email protected] Nedra Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
