John W. and George C. were twins. According to the family bible, John was born 5 Aug. 1823. John W. died 25 Dec. 1901 and was buried in the Mountain View Cemetery, Walla Walla, Washington (Contributed by Rella Gleaton who transcribed the cemetery and has John W.'s death as 1900). George C. is interred in the Oakwood Cemetery, Macomb, McDonough Co., Illinois. The headstone has 1823-1914 on it. I was incorrect in an earlier e-mail re. Jennie marrying George Munson. The Jennie I referred to was George C.'s daughter and is listed erroneously on a pedigree I received from an earlier relative. So, I'm not sure who John W.'s Jennie married but I think my Uncle will know. I will ask him when I see him in a couple of weeks. The following I'm am relating from an autobiographical and biographical history that my Grandmother (Meador) dictated to my Dad. John W. (Grandma's Grandfather), a Sister of his (no first name), her husband with the surname Jones, and Jane Beghtol Meador, bought three conastoga wagons and joined a wagon train. They traveled from Springfield, IL to St. Louis and then onto Fort Kearney. From there they went up the Bozeman Trail past Fort Laramie to Virginia City. The Sister and husband left the train and settle in Montana. John W. and Jane continued on to Lewiston, Genessee, Asotin and finally Walla Walla. Four boys and one daughter died of smallpox December 1876. Unfortunately, I have no idea where they were located at the time. The history reads as tho it happened during the move via wagon train. I wonder if the three kids Barb speaks of died from smallpox rather than typhoid. Or perhaps my Meador kids died of typhoid. Meador's parentage or any siblings, but it really sounds like there is a connection to Oliver Meador, somehow. Would be nice to prove it. Do you know who Jennie Meador married? In the 1900 census in Columbia Co. WA, living next door to John & Jane is Jennie & Lorenzo Braden and their children. Jennie's birth, according to this census, is July 1863 in Missouri. This fits with what we know about Jennie Meador, daughter of John & Jane. Lorenzo & Jennie have been married for 18 years. I'm wondering if there's a connection? Oliver & Harriet Meador (both born in TN) have two children that I've found, Ada and Oscar, both born in Missouri, then come out west after 1870 ... my grandmother, Bessie and her older sister by 2 years, Harriet, are born in Cottage Grove. The Meadors then head this way, and someplace by Asotin/Clarkston/Lewiston area the parents, and possibly two or three unaccounted for children die of typhoid. They are also traveling in a wagon. Harriet is raised by a spinster lady and Bessie is raised by the Tabors at Fixed Ridge in Julietta. Oscar is 15 when his parents died and Ada marries Harry Wood - she's about 17. I cannot find any death records of the parents, nor birth records for any of the children - just getting info off census so far. Oscar evidently had the family Bible but it got stolen out of his cabin in the Clearwater ar! ea where he worked with the forest service for years. I've gone thru about 3 years of Lewiston newspapers on film from 1896 through 1899, but never found any mention of them. It is just so similar its uncanny! Meador and Jane Beghtol. I have alot of documentation for anyone who wishes it. John W. Meador; born 5 August 1824 in Davidson Co., TN; De Etta's bible has his birthdate as 5 August 1823. I don't have his parents in my ped program so will look them up for you. He married Jane Beghtol 16 October 1842 in either Schyler Co., IL - I have a copy of the marriage license, marriage record or Schyler Co., and the permit to marry. John W. Meador died 25 December 1900 and is enterred in the Mountain View Cemetery, Walla Walla, WA as is his wife, Jane. I have attached a photo of John and his brother George. John W. is the one in the long beard. Jane Beghtol was born 15 October 1826 in Breckinridge Co., VA, according to a family bible record. and death certificate I will see if I have a copy of the record and if so, will jpeg it to you. I've attached a pic of Jane which is abit fuzzy but the best that I have. Her parents were Peter Beghtol and Polly Ann Bruner. Jane died 29 Nov. 1908. I may have a death certificate. I will check. They had thirteen (or perhaps more, altho these fall within a 2/3 range so the list looks complete): Charles, born May 1845 in Illinois; died 1913 Polinah, born 7 October 1847 in Illinois; Jesse, born 8 October 1849 in Illinois George W, born 12 Apr 1852 (but may have been 1851) in Illinois; died 1935 Theodore, born 10 July 1854 in Illinois; died 18 December 1876 in Sullivan Co., MO John W., born 2 October 1856 in Illinois. died 19 December 1876 in Sullivan Co., MO Clotilda, born 12 April 1859 in Illinois; died 24 December 1876 in Sullivan Co., MO Lincoln (my gggrandfather) born 2 June 1861 in Greencastle, Sullivan Co., MO; died 29 Sept 1926 in Arlington, OR Jennie (Jane), born 20 July 1863 in MO De Etta, born 11 Jan 1866 (may have been 18 Jan) in MO; died 1944 Oterbein, born 6 April 1868 in MO; died 22 Sept 1868; died 27 December 1876 Ida, born 2 April 1870 in MO Kora, born 30 April 1872 in MO; died 1958 Four siblings died within a couple of days of each other. I just checked some writings that my Grandmother (who was a Meador, daughter of Lincoln) left. She says that four boys and one girl died of small pox. According to my Grandmother, John W. and Jane bought three conastoga wagons and traveled in a wagon train from Missouri ending up eventually in Asotin. Her Aunt Kora tells of Lincoln trading his sister Jennie to some indians for a horse. If anybody has pictures of earlier Meadors - 19th century and of Beghtols, I'd really love to have jpegs. My husband's gg grandmother was Melvina Beghtol, who married Jesse DeWeese in Schyler Co. Illinois in 1842. Melvina's sister Jane married John Meador, also in 1842 in Schyler Co. Illinois. Both families went to Bates Co., Missouri. Jesse & Melvina were apparently in Missouri by 1849 as their second child was born in Missouri in 1849, according to censuses. John & Jane Meador may not have gone until later on, as I show their first 7 children were born in Illinois, the last 6 in Missouri, beginning with Lincoln Meador, who was born in 1861. Both Jesse & Melvina died in Bates Co. MO, but John and Jane died in Washington (Asotin-Walla Walla areas). I don't have an Oliver in my files, but I also have not researched out many of John & Jane's children yet, nor John's family. Now I have a few more names to add to the family files. She would be my great aunt. She is the older sister of my grandmother Bessie. The family came out from Missouri about 1890's. Bessie & Harriet were born in Cottage Grove, OR. Two older siblings that I know of, Oscar (born 1885) and Ada (Meador) Wood (born abt 1881) both born in Missouri. Their parents, I believe are Oliver Meador and Harriet (McFarland) (not too sure about the mom yet...) After leaving Cottage Grove (after 1896 - that is when Bessie was born) they headed towards Idaho/Washington/Oregon boarder when the parents both died - family lore has it they died of typhoid after drinking contaminated water. Bessie ended up living with Tabors (in 1900 census she is listed as a boarder) and her last name is listed "meatore" Bessie, Harriet, Oscar and Ada all contacted each other later in life it appears. Bessie, my grandmother, died after birth of her last child at age 29. My mom wa! s 7. The family was again all split up and no records really kept. Has been very difficult to track Oliver & Harriet! I've often searched the Asotin area as family lore indicates they died somewhere near Clarkston/Lewiston/Asotin area, but I haven't been successful to date. Sure a grave doesn't exist, but it would be nice to at least find an obit or a newspaper clipping about it. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
