Yes Fran, You are correct. William Bell married the daughter of Thomas Meador by the Thomas Will. Says,"I give to my daughter Frances Bell....." The Will of Thomas was in Essex Co. VA. I have the Will of William Bell and his wife is listed as Frances Meadows Bell Alcock. I have the marriage document of Robert Alcock and Frances Bell (widow). This was in 1786 i believe. I would have to pull it up. This is all in Orange Co. VA. Robin __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! Robin, We see so many of your postings as of late, and it's quite evident that you're bound and determined to 'dig up' all of the early American Meadors (please pardon the pun). Being a Meador cousin who is quite curious to know the facts, but too young (41) to be able to freely travel for research, I wanted to take the time to thank you for taking precious time out of your schedule to make the effort. If there are any other Meador researchers who are having trouble accepting Thomas Meades (d 1655) as the lineage of John Meador (son of Thomas, Essex Co), please contact me. Thanks
I found at the library Friday an unique spelling of the Meadows/Meador name. So I decided to list a few of the unknowns and mail it to researchers just in case it was unknown. Names are.. Medough, Medugh, Meddes, Meades, Meadoes, Meddoe, Maidor, Miador, Mader, Madoe, Maudor This list may just open locked secrets to many Meadows. Robin, I would appreciate the documents by email. Thanks Mary Wallace
Hi Listmembers: I took over the MEADOR-L mailing list about 2 months ago, and have enjoyed the activity of late. Thank you, Robin, for posting your MEADOR finds to the list. Hopefully listmembers are getting some good leads and information from the posts. Now, on to a few matters of an administrative nature. Posting to the list: When posting the the list, a good suggestion to follow is to make your subject line work for you. Don't say something general like "Looking for family" or "Looking for Meador." To attract attention, include the name in the subject line, along with a time frame and place, if known. Example: John Meador--Schuyler Co. IL 1825-1900. That way, your post stands out and should attract the attention of another listmember who hopefully can help you with your question. ------------------------------------------- Name variations: If we've been researching this line for very long, we should all aware of the many name variations for MEADOR. In my own family I've seen it as MEADOR, MEADER, and even MEADOW. Don't discount a spelling variation as not being a part of your family, especially if everything else matches (spouse, children, dates & places of births, marriages, etc). ---------------------------------------------- Posting to the List: To write to the list, the email address is MEADOR-L@rootsweb.com If it shows up as highlighted in your email program, clicking on the link will bring up the template. Ask your questions, share your information, but please make sure that it relates to MEADOR and related families. Please don't send jokes or stories to the list, unless they happen to pertain to the MEADOR surname. No forwards either, without the permission of the original author, and again, only if it's related to the MEADOR surname. And no "sales pitches" without writing to me first. Rootsweb does have rules for posting things for sale (mainly--they do not allow it unless certain guidelines are followed) so if you see something on Ebay or somewhere else that you think we might be interested in, check with me first before sending the information to the list. Also, should you happen to stumble across a MEADOR in your researching that may not belong to you, feel free to share it with the List. You never know when it might be just the piece of information someone else is looking for. ***Note*** So far I've not noted any problems with our postings, so keep up the good work! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Unsubbing: There's no "Nomail" option for Rootsweb lists. If you need to unsub for any reason, here are the instructions: Address your email to MEADOR-L-request@rootsweb.com if you are subscribed in list mode (individual emails come to you as they hit the list); or MEADOR-D-request@rootsweb.com if you are subscribed in digest mode (several emails lumped together into one big email). If these addresses show up in your email program as highlighted, clicking on them should bring up the email template pre-adderssed to the request address. With the email template up and properly addressed as above, you're ready to type the word "unsubscribe" in the body of the message. Nothing needs to go into the subject line, and do NOT include the quotation marks in the word "unsubscribe." Send it on it's way and you will be automatically unsubscribed. It's preferable that you do it yourself rather than ask me to unsubscribe you. If I'm away from my computer, I may not see your reques! t for a while, so it's usually quicker if you do it yourself. If you are having problems or have changed email addresses and don't have access to the one you're subscribed to, I will be glad to help you, but I should be the "last resort." ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Subbing: When you're ready to re-join the list after your vacation or whatever reason you had for leaving the list, the basic instructions are above, the only change is to type the word "subscribe" in the body of the email instead. Again, do not use the quotation marks. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- I will be gone from the 29th of July til Aug. 7th. I will still have email access other than when we're actually traveling, but since my parents do not have a computer, I'm "forced" to use dial-up and cannot tie up their phone lines for too long. So I probably will only check my mail at most, twice a day. If you have any questions or concerns, be patient during that time frame since I won't be checking mail as often as I do at home with my DSL connection. Plus I'm sure my parents would rather I visit with them than spend all my time on the computer. If you're wtill with me, thanks for reading this. I suggest you keep this somewhere to refer to if necessary. And please feel free to post your "Most Wanted" MEADOR to the list. I'll be making a companion MEADOR-L web page at some point after my return, so if you happen to have a web page with your MEADOR lines, send me the URL and I'll also include it on the page. I'll be updating tag lines for the email list so the above suggestions will appear in rotation. Don't know if I'll get a chance to do it before I leave, but if not it will happen when I return. Thanks for listening, Alice Allen Listmom for MEADOR-L
