Hi Genbug, I have a document of the 1659 that Thomas is son to Ambrose, unfortunately it is half burned so it is not clear of what the land grant is but it is clear about Ambrose and Thomas. Are you a member at Emma's website, it is posted there on page 3 of file cabinet. Hello Cousins, My name is Robin and would hope to get everyone involved. More the merrier. My idea is to have all of us related to Ambrose Mador/Meador of VA of late 1500's to organize the family tree as well as can be. By this, I mean, to organize the family tree by documents. As you all know, I am still collecting the documents, as it is a huge task by myself. Also, for the organization of documents into one data base would be a huge project. That is why I am asking for help. I have had a family tree maker 9th edition discs and so on for years and not one entry has been made because I am consumed with finding documents. It is a crying shame. This is where you all could help. We can organize this data base with our family trees and with the documents, and information to completely give geneations to come a easier way to research and for ourselves, that way we don't have to repeat constantly. This project would benefit all of us. Our point of communication would be the family tree site called MEADOR LIST. This way we will not fill this website up with talking, space is money. Emma is kind enough not to charge anything from anybody, therefore, in kind, I would like to keep this website open for documents and maybe brief discussions for those of you that do not want or can't join in with this very big task of this family tree. I have not worked all the details as of yet, because I have to figure out a way we can all use family tree maker, same edition because each one does not work with the other. If anyone has suggestions or comments, please, I am all ears. I am trying to do this with the least amount of money to none as possible. It costs me to get the documents, I don't really mind as long as I can do so, but with gas going up, my trips are delayed. I had planned on Northumberland Co, Essex Co, Caroline Co, and King William Co VA trips this year, but my trips will be limited now. So slow of a process. We all will still be able to use the documents posted here, I have tons of scanning to do. I have several tasks at hand, one task that is very hard and will take a person with skill, is to read and translate documents from the old hand writting so everyone will be able to read what it says. Another task, is I have some websites, that are free, given to me about a week ago by an English Librarian, but will need to dig up information on our Meador/Meadows/Mador/Medowe from England. The other task is to start putting inforamtion in the Family Tree Maker File with documents/ and where to find the documents (like book number and page numbers). For example, Will Book 3 page 245 & 230 & 231 & 578. The Family Tree Maker File will have to be agreed upon as far as what edition to make it. Like I said, I have just about the whole 9th edition. To get the whole version in the store, it costs about $99. We will have to all agree on this as well. One thing, if you have a newer version like edition 10 or 11 or 12 or 13, you can change the edition to a lower one. You would be able to change your 12th edition version and change it to an 9th edition version. However, I will not be able to change my 9th version to a 12th edition version. I know this is a lot to take in, so read, think about it, let me know. Wish I could get help with the scanning in documents and posting here. That is a job itself. Going to get documents is a job itself too. This is why I do need help and it would be a great way for us to gather as a family. It is work. And some of you have all ready offered support in one way or another. If you feel up to the task, jump in. I await to all replies, Your Cousin Robin --------------------------------- How low will we go? Check out Yahoo! Messengers low PC-to-Phone call rates.
First, I am NOT trying to start a controversy; I am trying to understand the Meade, Meades, Meador, Meadows lineage. I believe, based on the postings to this list and the research found in many places on the Internet that the following is the early lineage: Thomas Meades, b. 1612 in Bristol, England, married to Sarah Wellstead son Thomas Meadows, "The Orphan," b.1636 in Lancaster Co., VA married to Sarah Hoskins son John Meador/Meadows, Sr., b. 1659 in Charles Parish, York Co., VA married to Elizabeth White son Thomas Meadows, b. 1680 in Old Rappahannock Co., VA married to Elizabeth Wood, brother of Jonas/Jonah Meador married to Frances Hudgens son Thomas Meadows, Jr. b. 1714 in Essex Co. VA, married to Ann Bourne etc., etc. The question has always been, for me, who was Thomas (b. 1612) the father of and who was his father? Does Robin propose that Ambrose is Thomas, "The Orphan" 's (b. 1636) father, and NOT Thomas (b. 1612)? Does this mean that Thomas (b. 1612) is Ambrose's father? or is Thomas (b.1612 )Ambrose's brother? or what is the connection between these early generations? And where does the line go before these men? Just a little confused, possibly from being married to a Meadows. Josiah and Judith had alot of kids and the one I am connected to would be Turner Meador. Turner was born in 1790 and married Judith Richardson in 1814. I haven't been able to find very many people in the same line but, I am continually looking. What you say about accents could be true. I think both reasons sound plausible. Thanks for responding :)

Is this the same Josiah Meadow? It has been explained to me that often the Meadow/Meador names were confused and mistaken or taken for each others. When census workers took down information they took it as it sounded to them maybe some took Meadow for Meador and vice versa. Especially since alot of people in that era were illiterate ( Not saying Josiah was) just they couldn't correct the census taker if they couldn't spell well enough for themselves. I have seen ages wrong when I know someone was 38 in 1917 and then in the 1920 census they are only 30. So it depends alot on census takers and how they wrote names and gathered data.

Josiah Sr wife Laivina Rev. Josiah JR wife Juda/Judith Lilly Josiah III wife also a Judith Lilly (seeing the confusion build Josiah IV wife ? (I can not recall at this moment However if Josiah III and Josiah IV had JR's, that would be 6 Josiah men all together and if they named JR's, it could be 8 men and so on. Confusing, yep you bet cha.
