Dear Maine-Look-Up-List, In the IGI, I found a John Richards who might be my John Richards. According to the IGI entry, one John Richards was born "about 1865" in "Of, Mexico, Oxford, Maine". His parents were Jarvis William Richards and his mother Elizabeth Leah Bernard. There are more complete IGI entries for Jarvis and Elizabeth. If this John were born in 1865, then he would have been twenty when he married my great-grandmother, then only eighteen herself. The approximate birth date seems to indicate that this son was something of a lost sheep in the family, since there is another brother for whom very complete listings are given -- and I suspect that this lost sheep might be my brick wall, if you'll excuse the mixed metaphors. Could someone please look up this John? What does the geographical abbreviation "Of, Mexico, Oxford, Maine" mean? Again, for all your help, thanks. And just in case you are ever in Muenster, Germany (north of Duesseldorf, near the Dutch border, beautiful city of 300,000), feel free to look me up. Sincerely yours, Jeff Richards Muenster, Germany ----- Original Message ----- From: <Riwilak@aol.com> To: <ME-CENSUS-LOOKUP-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, August 14, 2001 7:48 PM Subject: Re: lookup request > This is the only John A Richards I find in Maine in the 1880 Census.
