Dear Maine Census Lookup, I am trying to locate my great-grandfather, John A. Richards, who was born in Maine, I surmise, between 1855 and 1865. Hitherto the only documentary mention I have of him is his marriage to my great-grandmother in 1885 in California. Otherwise, all I know is that he was born in Maine, and I have no county or city. John A. Richards, apparently, was something of a scallywag, since he deserted his wife and family around 1894. Since John Richards is about as common a name as John Smith, I realize that even this lookup request is a long shot.
