Dear Peg, I did some different searches to help narrow down where your Bailey family may be at. Do you have the civil war info for the History of Gorham, Maine book? Pages 345 & 346. Let me know if you don't. Bailey, John Year: 1860 County: CUMBERLAND CO. State: ME Page: 185 Location: WINDHAM Bailey, John Year: 1860 County: CUMBERLAND CO. State: ME Page: 309 Location: FREEPORT Bailey, John Year: 1860 County: CUMBERLAND CO. State: ME Page: 129 Location: WESTBROOK ----------------------------------------------------------------- Bailey, Isaac Year: 1860 County: CUMBERLAND CO. State: ME Page: 032 Location: WESTBROOK Bailey, Isaac W. Year: 1860 County: CUMBERLAND CO. State: ME Page: 109 Location: WESTBROOK _____________________________________________________________________ Then, I checked the 1850 Census to see if their was an Isaac that year. Isaac Bailey (50) was married to Louisa (45), and others: Mary (20) and Frances (16). (p.360) 1850, (p. 364) also has your John P. (25) and Mary (21) and Mary (2) living in WestBrook, Cumberland Co., Maine. Enumerated on Aug. 16, 1850. He was a teamster, born in Maine. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------- In 1870 Index, BAILEY , ISAAC 70 M W ME CUMBERLAND WESTBROOK roll 542 p. 488 . - Then I looked for Johns about 45 years old in 1870 Index. BAILEY, JOHN 46 M W ME WASHINGTON TOPSFIELD 563 p. 532. BAILEY , JOHN 44 M W ME AROOSTOOK LYNDON 538 p. 247 - And maybe this is a relative too, because of location and similar age to Isaac: BAILEY, JOHN 73 M W ME CUMBERLAND WESTBROOK 542 p.511 _________________________________________________ So it looks like you will at least want to get full info from the Westbrook Census 1860. Check the US GenWeb Project site for volunteers and transcribed info on the Town and County pages.
