    1. [ME-CENSUS] Luther Smith/1900/Shapleigh or Waterborough

    3. Hello, all. I am trying to determine if a Luther Smith (or his wife Charlotte) was still alive in Shapleigh, York County (or possibly Waterborough or another nearby town) in 1900. I have him as age 69 in the 1880 census, so was assuming that he had died sometime in the next ten or twenty years, but the clerk at the York County probate court was unable to find a probate record for him in their index up to 1900. Given the lack of a probate record, I thought a 1900 census check would be a reasonable next step. Of course, he might simply have not left a probate record, or it could have been lost, or ... Luther would have been about 90 in 1900 -- old, but possible -- and I have as family members from earlier censuses his wife Charlotte and children Mehitable, Joanna, James, Sarah Jane, Erastus, Stephen, Isaiah, and Susan. I assume Luther and Charlotte would be living with one of the children if they were still alive. Any help would be most appreciated.
