The closest I could find in the 1800 census is the following: Jonas Stocker(n?) Wells, York County,ME Roll 8 Pg 990 1 male 26-45 yrs, 2 females under 10 yrs, 1 female 26-45 yrs Paul Stocker(n?) Kittery, York County, ME Roll 8 Pg. 808 2 males under 10 yrs, 1 male 26-45 yrs, 2 females under 10 yrs, 1 female 10-16 yrs Thomas Stockings Monmouth, Kennebec County, ME Roll 7 Pg 262 3 males under age 10 yrs, 1 male 26-45 yrs, 3 females under age 10 yrs, 1 female 10-16 yrs, 2 females 26-45 yrs There were no Stoken households - just Stocker/Stocken ( not sure of the last letter) and Stockings Hope this helps. Hello, This is my first post to this list. I am looking for any census information on George or Robert STOKEN. Robert was born in 1810 or 1811 and George was his father. I don't know what township or county, but all of the census records I have for Michigan says they were born in Maine. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Randy Ortwein
Dear Judy, Wow! That was REALLY fast. I'd love to have the Walla Walla information if you have it. Thanks so much. Now I have to do a little digging around because this doesn't solve the John Albert Richards problem. There is a John M Richards born in 1865 in Waldoboro, so I have to see if there could be a connection. In case anything occurs to you, please advise. Is there a nation-wide index for either 1880 or 1900? Thanks again. All censuses taken after 1920 are still confidential and the information they contain is not open to the public. The census from 1790 through 1840 only named the head of the household and the numbers of people in categories - 3 males over 16, 2 males under 16, etc. The census from 1850 through 1920 lists each member of the household and usually gives the relationship to the head of the house. It also gives age (later years give birth month and year) and place of birth (usually just the state or foreign country). The 1890 census was almost totally destroyed by fire so there is a 20 year gap between 1880 and 1900. > > ============================== > To join Ancestry.com and access our 1.2 billion online genealogy records, go to: > http://www.ancestry.com/rd/redir.asp?targetid=571&sourceid=1237 >
Dear Listers, with your help, I have been narrowing down the possible John Richards from Maine who might have been my great-grandfather. At this point, it is clear that my John Richards, John Albert Richards, was born 25 Oct 1865. Where in Maine he was born is another question. Perhaps his family left Maine before 1870 or 1880. But it looks as though John Richards might have gone to California with another Richards from Maine whose full name was Silas Curtis Richards, born in 1861 in Maine. Neither John Albert Richards nor Silas Curtis Richards are in the IGI (which is probably a good sign if they were brothers or cousins). According to the Great Registry of Merced County where both are listed in 1892, both John and Silas are the only Richards from Maine in Merced County at this time, they have similar apparences, and they are close in age. Could some kind soul check for Silas Curtis Richards in the Maine census from 1880? I'm hoping that perhaps John Albert Richards might turn up nearby, perhaps under the name Albert Richards (I have another ancestor named Samuel Jasper Jackson who is listed as Jasper, so who knows?) Thanks in advance. Jeff Richards Muenster, Germany
Niot sure what you know about Silas but with an unusual name I try other sources and find him in 1900 Walla Walla WA with wife, 3 children, 2 step children. Do you want this info, if you do it will come as attachment as it is copy of actual census Judy & Gus AKA FoxHollow's Gentleman Gast'on CGC,NA,NAJ http://www.geocities.com/funnfur/Gus_the_TFT.html

I only find a Horace in the counties you mentioned in 1850. In 1860 there was a Horace R Jones in Franklin. Wasn't sure if you had the 1850 so will wait to hear from you on that before doing lookup. 1860 JONES HORACE R. Seeking Horace C. Jones from somewhere probably close to the Kennebec/ Waldo County line.... perhaps in the Unity/Unity Plantation or Albion Gore area. Not sure how old he might be. Many thanks to the kind soul who might check this one out in this busy holiday season. Ruthie Lame
Hello all, I have just uploaded my Knights line and wanted to invite you to visit. I hope to add more cemeteries in the future especially in the Waterboro Maine area. Right now there are only two, the Porter Knights Cemetery and the Knights/Kimball Cemetery. (Sorry no Kimballs photos yet.) Feel free to copy the photos into your databases for your personal use, but not for publication please without contacting me. Darlene Drop me a line if you connect. http://www.knights.hls-inc.net/index.htm
Hi Peg ~ Unfortunately, I don't think this is the Addie you are researching, but here is the lookup info you requested :) ~Maryann~ ============================== Addie R. Holt found in: Census Microfilm Records: Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, 1900 Lived in: Augusta, Kennebec County, Maine Series: T623 Microfilm: 593 Book: 2 Page: 85 73 Bridge Street Holt, Addie R; Head; White; Female; Born Nov 1869; Age 30; Married 2 years; mother of 0 children; Born in Maine; Both parents born in Maine; Occupation: Dress Maker ==============================
I would appreciate a census lookup for the following individual: Addie R. HOLT in Augusta, Kennebec Co., ME Roll 593, p. 58 1900 Census I suspect this is Addie R. (Brown) Holt, born about 1859 in Sudbury, MA, daughter of Samuel G. Brown, Civil War veteran and wife Abbie J. Smith. I am trying to determine who Addie might have married and why she was in Maine in 1900 but I can't find a suitable male HOLT husband on the same census film. I am researching the burial of Addie R. Brown Holt in Maynard, MA in 1906 and hoping this is the same person. Thank you. Peg
Thank you for looking for the LAvigne's. It is very possible that they went back to Canada for the birth of my grandfather and stayed there for a while. Thank You Pat
Hello Pat, I just checked the entire 132 pages of Biddeford and I could not find any Lavignes at all. Could they have been in Canada still?
