Am looking for a Ralph Barnes brn Lee, ME, migrated to Bangor about 1918 of after, m. Sadie and had possibly two Children. He is said to have died Bangor 1955 and Sadie 1965. E. V. Barnes
Sorry about this, I did not intend for this to be sent yet. But since it has been, I am looking for Aaron Hoag (ggf)and his family (specifically for Frederick E. Hoag-my gf). I first requested a lookup in Lincoln Co. but Fred was not there. Then I came across something (can't remember what/where) that suggests Kennebec county. Ohhhh, silly, it was the ME Court Index 1799-1854! My ggf was sued for a 'debt?' twice in 1853 in Kennebec Co. So please lookup Aaron Hoag & family in the census. I'd be so grateful. I am hoping this will give me the info I need for a birth record for my gf--this has been my brickwall for a looonnnngggg time. I know this is rather vague and am not sure how the 1920 census can be searched but....I'm looking for Sylvia KINSELLA..She would be a young girl in 1920..Her parents would be born in Newfoundland..This is pretty bad, isn't it!.. Just thought I'd take the chance and ask.. Thank You!.. Claudia..
Thank you Dana, another clue to work on. I call him William, he is one of the last ancestors that am researching. I have found the parents to all the others of that age. I have a few clues to work on, but not family stories. Emily in California
Hi Emily; There is no Henry Gowen in the Maine 1850 Census. There are two Williams, 31 and 48, both married, who would be to old. I did, however, find a Henry Gowing, 17, Clerk, in Peterborough, Hillsborough county, New Hampshire. M433 p. 335. He was enumerated in the family of Henry Steele, age 28, Merchant. Hello, I am looking for the birthplace of my great grandfather William Henry Gowen. All I know about his birth is that he was born in Maine Sept. 13, 1834 and that he married in Fort Wayne, Allen Co. IN in 1862. A cousin had him born in Penobcost, then I came across another entry for Charleston, Penobcost Co., Maine. There was also a note that he was called Henry. His occupation was as a cabinet maker, but this might have been later on in Indiana. Now and then someone in the family spelled their name Gowan. He died in California but is supposedly buried in Fort Wayne. Emily in California

All censuses taken after 1920 are still confidential and the information they contain is not open to the public. The census from 1790 through 1840 only named the head of the household and the numbers of people in categories - 3 males over 16, 2 males under 16, etc. The census from 1850 through 1920 lists each member of the household and usually gives the relationship to the head of the house. It also gives age (later years give birth month and year) and place of birth (usually just the state or foreign country). The 1890 census was almost totally destroyed by fire so there is a 20 year gap between 1880 and 1900. ============================== To join Ancestry.com and access our 1.2 billion online genealogy records, go to: http://www.ancestry.com/rd/redir.asp?targetid=571&sourceid=1237

Dear Maine Census Listers, I have found an Edmund Richards in the 1880 census with a son named John M. Richards who is 16. Could someone help me find the reference to this family in the 1870 census? Thanks in advance. I am still banging away at my brick wall (John Albert Richards, born either in 1864 or 1865), and the New England Genealogical Society couldn't find him him in a QuickSearch or in an InDepthSearch. So I have to try brick by brick. Turns out the records from Oxford County are pretty scanty for this period as well. And this Edmund doesn't even show up in the IGI. Oh well. I have some other really neat success stories, but my brick wall John Albert Richards still keeps me humble... Best, Jeff Richards Münster, Germany
