Tracy in NC Hi Tracy; I don't have the 1840 census, but it only lists the head of household. Wives and children are not listed, except numbers are listed in an age category. It wouldn't help. My mother's name is Esther, but my father always called her Rose. But, since the other names don't match what you have, then I would say it may be the wrong family. Best wishes, Dana

Dave- no Grace HAMILTON in the index for ME- but there are lots of HAMILTON in Waldo and Somerset Co's starting in 1830. It would be pretty hard to find her unless you know her father's name, as the censuses before 1850 only listed the head of household and the ages of others in that household.
