    1. RE: [ME-CENSUS-LOOKUP] HANCOCK/1880/GRAY
    2. Valmay
    3. Hi Thanks for the help. I think that must be the guy I am looking for. Charles and Feith must have got married not long after the census was taken as they were married when their daughter Inez was born in 1882. Not much is know to us about this family as we are descended from their daughter Inez who ran off to California deserting her husband and children. Feith's maiden name was FOX. She was born in Waltham, Maine which is also in Hancock county. I'm not sure of her age. I appreciate your help. Regards Valmay -----Original Message----- From: Riwilak@aol.com [mailto:Riwilak@aol.com] Sent: 03 April 2002 01:29 To: ME-CENSUS-LOOKUP-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [ME-CENSUS-LOOKUP] HANCOCK/1880/GRAY Here is the only Charles A Gray in Hancock County 1880 census. If you have an estimated age for him, I can check other Charles Grays. Also, do you know Feith's (Faith?) maiden name and/or est. age? Maybe they were not married in 1880. I think there is a good chance this is your man. While he does not appear to be working in a sawmill at the time, most of his siblings are; he may have started later. 1880 Census Place: Ellsworth, Hancock, Maine Source: FHL Film 1254480 National Archives Film T9-0480 Page 127B Relation Sex Marr Race Age Birthplace Isrel P. GRAY Son M S W 21 ME Occ: Works In Saw Mill Fa: ME Mo: ME ==== ME-CENSUS-LOOKUP Mailing List ==== In the U.S., a census has been taken every 10 years from 1790 through 1990. All censuses taken after 1920 are still confidential and the information they contain is not open to the public. The census from 1790 through 1840 only named the head of the household and the numbers of people in categories 3 males over 16, 2 males under 16, etc. The census from 1850 through 1920 lists each member of the household and usually gives the relationship to the head of the house. It also gives age (later years give birth month and year) and place of birth (usually just the state or foreign country). The 1890 census was almost totally destroyed by fire so there is a 20 year gap between 1880 and 1900. ===================== To join Ancestry.com and access our 1.2 billion online genealogy records, go to: http://www.ancestry.com/rd/redir.asp?targetid=3D571&sourceid=3D1237 Search Stamp powered by www.mailround.com

    2. I tried to find Feith/Faith Fox with no luck. Was hoping I could find her parents. There are 7 Fox families in Hancock County 1880 census, but no luck with her. You might find the following interesting. I found it on Rootsweb, which is sort of our 'free' bible over here. Probably there, too, huh? <http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~drowles/gray/r0000007.htm> Maybe you will be able to contact somebody through this site who can help you further. Good luck.
