For those new to the roots web and those of you veterans I would like to say that there are many folks who subscribe that are willing to do what they can to help others in their research. I, myself do Volunteer research at Andersonville Civil War Prison in Andersonville Georgia. There are Any research I do is absolutely at NO cost and I am willing to do what I can. There are 485 prisoners of war on record from the state of my home state of Maryland and about 100 who died here, I thought I would send my offer. I also do the research for any prisoners from any state that were here. Here are my sources of research. There are 2 online databases to do lookups.....One by name...one by Company and Regiment. I also have a copy of the Dorence Atwater Death list which has the names and grave numbers of 12960 graves with only 460 marked as " UNKNOWN " This along with a CD I have which contains 34,000 names of the 45,000 who were imprisoned there which helps me find prisoner records because of misspellings of the names or alternate names. I visit the prison site every couple of weeks and have access to the onsite databases as well as the physical files. Please do not concider this spam as my research offer is FREE for the asking and will be posted on this county site only once. If there is anything I can do in helping your research at Andersonville, please just ask. While visiting my daughter who lives in Mardela Springs in Wicomico County I noticed an old graveyard on her property. There is only one stone left standing but it looks as if there are other unmarked graves there. The information on the stone is "Infant Crosby" It is hard to read, but the parents seem to be possibly a Charles (this is not sure) S. and Mary A. The stone looks to be very old and weathered. I have a photo of the stone if anyone would like for me to send it. Kathleen Burnett

First I am looking for information on the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Whiton, Maryland. There are many Zion UME churches in Maryland and I believe this one is not in Whiton but near it. It may not be there still. But I have a Susie Jones buried there sometime after 1929. Also, I am looking for a Jones family that lived in Whiton, Maryland (which is on the border of Wicomico and Worcester Counties). I have John Thomas Jones born abt. Jan. 1866 in Whiton, Maryland and died in 1930. He married Cornelia E. Dennis of Willards, Wicomico, Maryland. He was also a train conductor for a railroad. I do not know his parents names but believe that he may had a brother Peter James Jones who was married to Susie Givens, daughter of Elisha Givens and Elizabeth Parsons. He might have had a sister or brother name Sidney Jones. Cornelia E. Dennis was born Jan 4, 1873 and died May 17, 1923. They had the following children: Margaret Elizabeth, b. 1895; John W., b. abt. 1890, Elma, b. 1896, and Eschol Dewey, b. 1898. I was told that John and Cornelia broke up when Eschol was young and John and Cornelia are found on the 1900 census married stilll. I put their divorce sometime right after 1900. I was told that me remarried after Cornelia and was living in Pennsylvania with all of his children from his first marriage except for Eschol since he was too young to be away from his mother. I also have a Susie Jones, wife of Peter James Jones, who I have an obituary for. No date on it except I know it mentioned her husband died in 1929 so it is after that year. Susie is the daughter of Elisha Givens and Elizabeth Parsons and had a sister Sarah Givens who married ? Jacelin and a brother, Herman Givens. Susie Givens and Peter James Jones had the following children: E. Maurice Jones Henry G. Jones J. Franklin Jones James S. Jones W. Elton Jones Daughter Jones (married to William Laws) Daughter Jones (married to Walter Donoway) Anyone with info on these families and the Zion UME church please contact me at [email protected] I have been stuck on this family for more than two years. Thanks, Kelly

But your information is interesting and the more information we have out here the more mysteries will be solved. Looking at your other posts: There are a considerable number of Elliotts from the Wicomico area that are listed in World FamilyTree entries. Also you mentioned McGraths. There are McGraths in the Atkinson's District of Worcester County throughout the 1800's and an enduring NcGrath family that lived on what is now Old Pocomoke Road near what is now St Lukes Road just below the Worcester County line from Wicomico. Good luck

But if anyone is researching Elliotts in Wicomico Co, MD please, please contact me. My Mom is Ross Elliott Mitchell who is now 80 and would like more info on her father's (John wesley Elliott) side of the family. If your an Elliott from this area we could be related. I have lots of info & am willing to exchange data. ALSO I JUST FOUND THIS/Possible relatives to William Grason Elliott's or Mary J. Puckum's relative's Allan Willis MEZICK b Oct. 12, 1879 d. Oct. 12, 1944 married Esther Caroline (Robertson) MEZICK, b. May 25, 1880 d. Feb. 6, 1962. I just found this couple listed in the Chancery record deed for my Elliott & Puckum family when their adult children divided up the property after Algernon Puckum (Mary's brother) & my great grandparents Mary J. Puckum Elliott & Wm. Grason Elliott all died. The Mezick's mentioned above are listed on this chancery record to receive inheritance from the family land. Although, they did not make a claim It looks like these two are related to my Elliott's. The Elliott's & Puckum (mentioned above) died in the early 1900s their land wasn't sold off until 1922 by order of their next of kin: James & Martha Elliott McGrath, Walter & Carrie Elliott Foxwell, Dora Lewis & John Wesley Elliott, Mary V. Elliott & the Mezick's mentioned above. please contact!!!!! The Elliott land owned was approx 23 acres of land on Capitola Road which turned out to be a mere sum of money after it was sold in the 1920s. And since the kids waited for some 20 years to divide up the land---- someone by then had even dismantled their homes---- I am assuming for the wood. I know my gg grandparents lived thier from the 1860s until the 1900s. One of thier children stayed in this area Mary V. Elliott who never married (she died in 1939. Others who stayed for a while were Carrie Elliott who married Walter Foxwell, & Martha Rebecca Elliott who married James McGrath (their children m. Bloodsworth's in the area). They had other children but they died before 1910 (William A.C., Susia, Issac and WIlliame (female). Mary j. was a Nanticoke/Lenape Indian although she passed as white on the census's and she did own land. So, they must have kept her heritage a secret. I know that the Larrimore's lived nearby and one of them testified in this court case if that helps. Anything info would be greatly appreicated!!!!
