    1. Courthouse papers
    2. Hello all: I was at the Wicomico County Courthouse last year looking for some papers regarding the estate of one of my ancestors. I copied a listing of many names of deceased people one of which was my ancestors. It gave decedents, name of executor/administrator, date of bond penalty, name of Securities etc. My question is - would the Date of Bond Penalty be the date that the person died or, at least, near the date the person died? Unfortunately, I was new to the records there and had to leave so did not ask the lovely, helpful people there this question? I am trying to "zero" in on the actual date of death of my ancestor. Thank you for any help- Ahlive

    2. My cousin Nancy just sent me this: Tilghman Family 1600's Kent Snodland Parish There is a wonderful woman named ELIZABETH TILLMAN who lives in KENT who wrote a series of books on the KENT TILLMANS. She says that CHRISTOPHER TILGHMAN and ANNA never had any children at all (I have seen posts though that list 4 or 5 children for them) and that our colonial CHRISTOPHER who arrived in the colonies in the 1640s was probably a nephew of theirs not their son. Of course sources here say that STEPHEN TILLMANS Book was based on pieces of the family bible from COLONIAL CHRIS that showed CHRIS and ANNA as his parents. Elizabeth was kind enough to write to me and send me a copy of what she thought was the correct line of our CHRIS. I have emailed her to ask what Elizabeth had sent. thanks Becky

    1. Dora Elizabeth HITCHENS COOPER BRITTINGHAM/Joseph COOPER
    2. Subj: Dora Elizabeth HITCHENS COOPER BRITTINGHAM/Joseph COOPER Hello, I have posted some of this before but it has been quite some time so I am posting again in search of some new information. Looking for children born to Dora Elizabeth HITCHENS and Joseph W. COOPER married 4Sep1893, Wicomico Co, MD. I know of at least one childe and there is possibly another. Dora remarried 23Feb 1899 to George Thomas BRITTINGHAM First child of Dora and Joseph: Willey M. COOPER (possibly Wilhelamina ... M could have been May/Mae). In 1900 census Dora had stated she had given birth to 3 children and that 3 were still living children. However she only lists Willey and a new child with the new husband ... New child is Helen L. BRITTINGHAM. Cant account for 3rd child. Would almost have to have been a child with Joseph W COOPER. This second child wouldnt have been older than 5 years old in 1900 or younger than 2 years, is my guess since Dora was remarried by 1899 and if this child is still living in 1900, and not living with Dora and George BRITTINGHAM, then where would it be. Was Joseph still living? Was child with him if he was still living? Was child with Grandparents on day of census, or living permantly with Grandparents? Also looking to see if Dora and Joseph were divorced, or was she widowed and when. Would there be a record of the parents and siblings of Joseph on anything such as marriage license, death certificate regardless of date of death (leaving her a widow or even if death ocurred in later years.) They seemed to have lived in and around Delmar sometimes in Maryland and sometimes in Delaware. Sometimes Sussex CountyDE and sometimes in Wicomico County, MD. Their families (BRITTINGHAM, COOPERS, HITCHENS, and Dora's maternal side the SHUMANS) all seem to be from in and around those areas. In the 1900's Dora and George lived in Wilmington Delaware (New Castle County). Dora died there in 21Jan1924 but was transported by train to Delmar for burial. Im not sure if it was Delaware or Maryland and I do not know where the burial took place, burial was 24Jan1924. By here death, Dora and George had 3 more children. Mary Virginia, John Washington and James L BRITTINGHAM (this last child was born in 1915) Hoping to find information on Dora's other child, as well as information in Joseph's family. Thanks.
