(I think her parents were dead.) She married the farm hand who was about 21 named Clarence Dryden when she was about 15. They had 3 children. Years later they divorced and she remarried Preston Gootee. I am just beginning on this and do not even know her maiden name. The Arveys could have been her grandparents or an uncle. And I also remember something about a Mattox or Maddox family, but I thought they were in Pungoteague Virginia. And the stories I remember indicated she was from Pungoteague, but according to the census, she said she was born in MD. I heard these stories as a child and think her grandparents were named Arvey and Mattox or Maddox. The things I remember are not matching the information I am finding. It seems to me that Preston Arvey came to her funeral and a family member said he was related to he! r. Anything you can tell me would be appreciated.

Don't know if it will help you. Ernest C. Arvey - 54; wife: Lida-possibly 51; daughter: Hazel E. - 23 & single; son: Melvin - 20 & single (He was named Clarence M. in the 1920 census); son - Marion E (18 & single); son Morris - 14 & single. I seem to recall my grandmother referring to someone named Hazel and have been trying to find out more about the family and try to piece it all together.

Surnames: McGlaughlin, Cooper, Taylor, Malone Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/wEB.2ACE/109 Message Board Post: I'm looking for any information on the McGlaughlin family that lived in the Tyaskin District from c.1870 to c.1883. The father's name was John McGlaughlin. His wife was Mary Ann Mayfield McGlaughlin (sometimes referred to as Mollie). Their children were: Joseph, John Henry, Charles, William, Minnie, Sarah, Alezandria Shriver. Joseph first married Lena (Unknown)...place unknown, and second to Eva Jane "Jennie" Malone in Wicomico Co. (He first moved to NJ, then to NY). John Henry married Sarah Causey in Somerset Co., and second to Virginia Bradley in Dorchester Co. Charles moved to NJ and married there. William married first to Eliza Jane Taylor in Tyaskin, and second to Louisa Murphy in Dorchester Co. Minnie moved to Baltimore and married there. Sarah moved to NY and married there. Shriver married first to Mary Ellen Todd, and second to Geneva Bramble Stewart... both in Dorchester Co. John (the father) was a sea captain and owned a sloop named "Arietta", which was later sold after his death in 1872. His estate matters were handled by Attorney Lemuel Malone of Salisbury (Uncle to "Jennie" Malone). Mary Ann married second to Isaac J. Cooper in April 1875 in Wetipquin. They later moved to Northumberland County, Virginia. She died in 1883. If any of this sounds familiar, please email me. Thank you.

My mother knew him as "Uncle Verly" but I can't make the conection. He may be an honorary uncle but I suspect there is some true connection, if not an actual uncle. In the household in 1930 is Thomas Baton, listed as brother in law. Since I am not aware of anyone actually named Baton, I think it may be a smudged writing of Barton. That would be interesting because the next door neighbors, by great great grandparents named a son Barton Mumford. "Uncle Verly" in 1930 has a son named Billy, which I have "Uncle Verly" as having had a first wife Gertrude who was born in 1900 and is presumed dead in 1923. That is because she appears in the 1920 census as his wife, and then in 1930 Sallie is his wife and had been married 6 years.

Since he was in Vineland at death, let’s guess this to be the 1943 to 1950-something range that he was in Salisbury. This is too recent to find him in any Census, but is there a City Directory or whatever, to see if he lived near other Parsons there? A more experienced amateur genie has long suspected that the southern NJ Parsons relate to the ones in or near Wicomico County, and perhaps Delaware too. Maybe they maintained some contacts over many years. Your “Parsons talk” is most welcome, either on this Site or at my Hotmail addy. I am looking for any information about Isaiah CRANKFIELD, sometimes spelled as CRANFIELD or CRANFILL, believed to have come to Kent Co. Delaware in the 1700s, perhaps at the same time as his brothers Moses and Hezekiah Crankfield/Cranfield/Cranfill. This family is believed to have originated in England, but we have not yet found any record of their crossing. We do know that Hezekiah Crankfield fought in the French and Indian War, and in the Rev. War at Guilford's Courthouse in North Carolina. We do not know for a certainty where Isaiah and Moses went, but possibly to Maryland and the Carolinas. Any information on this line will be most appreciated. Arlene Hampton
I am researching James H. Hall born abt 1812. He was married in Cincinnati to the granddaughter of Levi Houston and Dolly Schoolfield. I believe he may be related to Ezekiel or Richard Hall both found in Cincinnati at about the same time as James and both from Maryland. I do not know where or when Richard was born but Ezekiel was born on "the Eastern Shore" in 1774 according to his tombstone. Ezekiel shows up in Cincinnati for the first time about 1805 and Levi Houston moved to Kentucky (very close to Cincinnati) before 1812. If anyone is researching Hall or Houston could you please contact me and see if we can put something together. Especially if you have an Ezekiel, Richard or James or any other Halls that disappeared from Maryland between 1812 and 1834.
