I've checked all the Wicomico/Somerset cemetery listings and haven't run across it. I believe the graves of Marcellus Bounds (d. 7/241861) and his parents, James Bounds (9/5/1792-7/25/1852) and Elizabeth Crawford (1801-1830) are located there. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi everyone, There are some opportunities for involvement that are currently available within The MDGenWeb Project. If you have an interest in Dorchester County, or African-American, or Native American genealogy, and you have at least basic knowledge of html and ftp uploading, this is an opportunity for you to become part of one of the best state projects associated with The USGenWeb Project. 1. The Dorchester County site for The MDGenWeb Project is available for adoption. 2. We are looking for someone to launch a topical state special project for African-American genealogy. 3. We are looking for someone to launch a topical state special project for Native American ancestry. As USGenWeb Local Coordinators (County Coordinators, or CCs, and State Special Project Coordinators, or SSPCs), we are able to help our fellow researchers, and "give back" to the genealogical community by sharing our knowledge and skills. Becoming a CC can be very fulfilling and rewarding, both in terms of learning more about the history of Maryland and/or your chosen county or topic, and helping others with their genealogical research. If you're interested and would like to apply, or if you just want more information about CC and SSPC duties, take a look at our Volunteer page (http://www.mdgenweb.org/volunteer.htm). Thanks! Shari Handley Maryland USGenWeb State Coordinator [email protected]

Hello All: I have an 8x10 slightly tattered picture of Thomas Purnell Fletcher and Margaret Ellen Messick - Thomas was born in 1856 and Margaret Ellen was born in 1865. Margaret Ellen (I called her Aunt Maggie) was the sister of my grandmother. I am not sure when this picture was taken but would guess they are in their sixties - only a guess. They are both buried in St. Phillips Episcopal church in Quantico. There are no names on the back but I went to see the daughter of Lee Carol Messick (brother of Margaret Ellen) before she passed away and she told me right away who they were. I have a reduced picture of them and would be glad to send this original picture to the first direct descendent who contacts me - - please do not ask unless you are - thank you - Ahlive

I'm really excited about your connecting the Arvey & Maddox families for me. And I think I remember my uncle mentioning your family. It all seems to fit now that I've had time to think about it. My grandparents had three children: Catherine Wales (Wailes) Dryden (5-17-1921), Clarence Franklin Dryden (10-29-1922), and Mary Louise Dryden (11-16-1924). My grandmother (Olive Frances or Francis) celebrated her birthday on May 10th. There seems to be some question as to the year she was born. The info I found does not match the year on the tombstone. Really just finding my way on some of this. Didn't expect to find so much conflicting info as to ages and such when comparing census info vs. official marriage records vs. family knowledge. Actually got so discouraged when working on another part of my family that I didn't work on my genealogy for awhile. Have never used a message board before. Didn't even know what to do. Hardly knew where to begin with my grandmother. She told me stories about being from Vi! rginia and I remember a bunch of us piling in a car when I was a little girl and all going to Pungoteague, VA, to please my grandmother. And she ooh'd and ahh'd and reminisced. But I was very young. And she always indicated she was from VA. I had always thought that one of her parents (possibly named Mattox--that's how I remember her spelling it) was from Pungoteague and that her grandparents on that side continued to live there. And her memories of Pungoteague were from visiting or living with those grandparents. And all those stories about VA kept me drawing a blank on finding any info. So your having information on the Arvey family has given me a real boost and given me a direction to go in. Would love to get together when you can fit it in your schedule. I'm now retired but keeping busy. Thanks again. Wanda

I was told that both of the parents of my grandmother died when she was very young and so I couldn't figure out the connections. I live in Salisbury. My address is 30558 Olde Fruitland Rd, Salisbury, MD 21804 and my number is 410-749-1442. Have some interesting stories told to me by my grandmother that I won't repeat here, but the stories do not match the available info. Maybe she was just entertaining a young girl with her fabricated stories. The info I found in the 1910 census was confusing: William E. (Emory?) Arvey 22 head of house with Martha H. (Sister in law) also residing there. Martha had 2 children listed at that time: hard to read....maybe Nettie?? (5) and Arthur?? Preston (1). These 2 children were listed as the niece and nephew of William E. William E. had a son listed: Clifford C. (2). Then in the 1930 census Preston was listed as the son of William E. and Martha H., who was then listed a! s the wife: Preston was 21 and single. There was also another son (Lawrence E.) listed for them--age 3. Gave me a headache and I had to quit for awhile. I'm going back and look at my info with a fresh eye now that you've connected the Arvey and Maddox families for me. The census info has totally confused me. But then I'm fairly new at this. Thanks a million. Wanda
