Hello All, I came across a book recently titled "The Beginnings of Lord Baltimore's Plantation in Maryland" that was written c1634. The wording is still in the old English so it's a bit of a hard read, but a fascinating account of life at that early time on the "frontier". My Nowland family came over in to MD in the late 1600's so it is especially interesting to see what they had to deal with at that time. I have scanned the book and placed it on my web site for anyone who is interested. It is at http://www.midatlanticarchives.com Also, if there are any other Nowland descendants out there I would love to hear from you. Alan -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Good afternoon from the West Coast of Canada. I have been fortunate enough to find an obituary through Ancestry.com .and as usual it has created more questions I have to rely on internet and group lists for most of my research and I am hoping someone out there can help or let me know how to order a death certificate HELEN E TAYLOR of Meadowbridge Rd died September 16 1957 Obituary does not mention a husband so we don't know if she is a widow or divorced. Helen is the daughter of Alice Nadeau and Wilfred Nadeau.Wilfred left for Canada in the early 1920's but Alice never left Wicomico county I would love to find the death date and or obituary for Alice also..we know she was alive in 1949 but had probably passed away by 1951. If anyone has any ideas where I can look online or where to write for information I would be very grateful Thanks Diane on Vancouver Island

Yes, it may have been quicker--but definitely not cheaper and most of those migrating south had little spare cash to spend on a Carnival cruise --of course with the exception of Kathy Lee Gifford's ancestors. <<<Neil>>> ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, June 16, 2006 3:42 PM Subject: Re: [MDWICOMI] Re: Tract & Land Names > They had two choices - overland or by water. The most common route for migration south into the Carolinas and later Georgia was down the Appalachians. Most of those who migrated from Pennsylvania, Maryland, etc. used this route to get south. <<<Neil>>> ----- Original Message ----- From: "Doris Whaley" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, June 16, 2006 2:15 PM Subject: Re: [MDWICOMI] Re: Tract & Land Names >I am looking for info about the people who went to Georgia about 1790. They had two choices - overland or by water. Me, I would have chosen water, as it would have been quicker and easier. Research into my daughter-in-law's family who went west into Kentucky suggests they probably traveled with a group of other people, possibly related, possibly not. Elizabeth
I am looking for info about the people who went to Georgia about 1790. Are there any records saying how they traveled? A William Whaley md. to a Hannah Round went to GA. Any suggestions? Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/wEB.2ACE/152.2 Message Board Post: A tract would be sold under it's original name, but, if a portion was sold or divided up or added to, it was resurveyed and then usually given a new name. In the case of Whitfield...you need to throw a bigger net....the tract was usually spelled Whitefield or White Feald, or who knows what other spellings.. It was already in existence in 1675 when it was referred to in the Som RR for that year. In 1716, Lazarus Maddux willed 700 Acres of Whitefield and White Feald, both spellings, to 2 of his sons in Somerset Co. Lazarus's mother was Eleanor White Maddux Boseman. I suspect the field was originally her father's. In 1763, Alexander Maddux ( one of many by that name) willed his share of Whitefield to 3 of his 5 sons, a 4th son was to have the part Alex's widow lived on , after her death. In the mid 1780's, three of the four inheritors of Whitefield sold out to their brother in law, Benjamin Hearne, and were soon gone to Georgia. Thus, you would expect to see Hezekiah Maddux and Benjamin Hearne with the bulk of Whitefield in , say, 1790. However, as a caution, the Maddux and Hearne families lived in that portion of Somerset that later became Worcester Co MD and then Sussex Co DE. So, be sure to look there. Maryellen
