Lauren, Thank you do much for the information. I believe the RODER, ROEDER, READER, REEDER, etc. line is also a part of this family. I have seen it spelled also RUTTER. I am new to studying in this area and I really appreciate all your help. I have noticed that districts/properties seem to be described in terms of "Hundreds". Would you or anyone know where the farm 3 miles from Hagerstown on the way to Ritter's Ford (1809) would be located today and in relationship to which "Hundred" of that era? Thanks again, Chocy
I don't know where you live, but hitting the land index in the courthouse is probably the most reasonable way to find the land holdings under your surname. You can also access a microfilm of it from the LDS Library if you don't live close. Remember 1776 forward is Washington County so you need to know the county evolution dates. You will probably also be more interested in the name of the land parcel(s) than in the 100 where it's located. There are some maps available of the land parcels - I can't recall exactly where right now, I haven't worked on them in a couple years, so I'm drawing a blank. Perhaps someone else on the list can tell you where they reside - in a library or historical society I believe. There is an excellent discussion of some of the land parcels and some maps in THE BRADDOCK EXPEDITION AND FOX'S GAP IN MARYLAND, by Curtis L. Older. It mentions a lot of information on maps in the MSA etc. I think Willow Bend has the book. The land parcel names are very colorful - Worse and Worse, Pick All, John's Delight, Turkey Foot, and so on. I just remembered the map information. It is called the Arthur Tracey Collection and it is in the Carroll County Historical Society in Westminster, MD.
