    1. Re: [MDWASHIN] Herman Henrich Clapper
    2. I have been following the postings on Herman Henrich Clapper. I saw where it was stated that Henry Clapper was a heir to the estate of Jacob Ritter. Where would I find Jacob Ritter's will and more information on him? I would appreciate any information connected to Jacob Ritter. Thank you.

    3. I don't have the index to wills, only the estate distributions. The will index was published by Morrow and Morrow in 1977. There are also abstracts of the earliest wills from Vol. A published serially in Western Maryland Genealogy Magazine beginning in Vol. 9, 1993. There are also microfilms available from LDS and Maryland State Archives. Here is the full Ritter citation: RITTER, Jacob. Adm. Christian Lantz. n.d.; Ann Smith, Jacob Harter (of his late wife Elizabeth), John, Philip Willson's heirs, Rebecca Ribble, Henry Clapper, Elias, each 73.2.8 34, add 4.14.10 given to each of 8 heirs T. ....a couple more distributions. I can't find any of these people in the marriage records. As I indicated earlier - I don't know what the relationship is of all these people - John and Elias appear to have the last name of Ritter. I don't know if Ann Smith and Rebecca Ribble are daughters and if Henry is married to a daughter and if Philip Willson and his wife are dead. In the Hagerstown Gazette which was published during the same time period of the estate, there is reference to a place called Ritter's Ford - a farm is for sale about 3 miles from Hagerstown on the road to Ritter's Ford in 1809 - also another farm sale referenced Ritters Old Fording in the same year. The Maryland Herald Feb. 27, 1807 "Christian Lantz. sen., exec of Jacob Ritter, sen. to sell tract of dec'd." [This notice indicates he died before this date and that he was Jacob Ritter, Sr.] Frederick Hornet [reference to another Ritter during this same time period] June 17, 1806 "Died Wednesday last in this town, Adam Ritter, formerly of Winchester, Va." I have vol. II and III of the cemetery records and they contain no Ritter listings. I have a Rader line in PA and this is one of the spelling variations along with Roder, Roeder, Reader, Reeder, etc. Hopefully someone else has a will index and can get you more information.
