    3. I can't remember who had William Pope as a brick wall. I just got a couple new books and found a person who might be of interest. Frederick-Town Herald July 20, 1805 "Joseph Birnside, Clarksburg, Mtg Co, offers reward for apprentice boy, William Pope, bound to tanning and currying business, short, well made, in 18th yr, light colored hair, speaks slow, rather slow motioned, supposedly went off with a person named Basil Murphy." 3. It just dawned on me that mtg co is an abbreviation for Montgomery County - you might go Pope hunting there. It is hard enough to find information but tracking a runaway apprentice might be a trick. I will tell you that I found vital information at Maryland State Archives on one of my trips back there in Washington County apprentice records. Some of them were incredibly detailed with information about parents, etc. You may have to do so sleuthing about if those records exist for that county still, and where they would be. I have encountered other runaway apprentice notices in these newspaper extracts.
