Since the first census was in 1790 that would probably be one possibility. Tax records are earlier - the 1783 list is on Maryland's GenWeb site. Land records are also a possibility although everyone didn't own land. I think Sharpsburg would be in the Lower Antietam 100 for the early records, but someone else may have a more definitive answer.
