    1. Re: [MDWashin] William W. Watts, b. 1777 - KY?

    3. Thank you for the information. I'm particularly interested in the first bit from the Washington Spy referring to a William Watts living with Aquilla Neal. I'm wondering if this is the right William? By 1795 my William would likely have returned from the Indian wars in the Ohio territory. According to his 1836 pension application written in Kentucky he suffered wounds at either the ambush of Lt. John Lowery's column in 1793 or at the battle of Fort Recovery in 1794. I'm wondering if he was recuperating at Neal's in 1795? By 1797 William was in nearby Berkeley Co., VA where he married his first wife Nancy Ware. Another question. Does anyone know if Aquilla Neal is actually Aquilla Nail? -----Original Message----- From: Lauren Brantner Sent: Monday, December 09, 2013 3:31 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [MDWashin] William W. Watts, b. 1777 - KY? in the Washington Spy (Hagerstown) there is an list of unclaimed letters in the Hagerstown Post Office. April 21, 1795 "William Watts, living with Aquilla Neel" is on the list. Same scenario different newspaper - the Maryland Herald, January 7, 1802 lists an unclaimed letter for Thomas Watts Maryland Herald July 21, 1801 has an unclaimed letter listed to "Barton Watts - North Rochester P.M." He has an unclaimed letter in the same paper dated October 2, 1800. Maryland Herald February 19, 1812 "Sheriff's sale of Tench RINGGOLD's right to his lands in Washingtom, co, now in the tenure of O.H.W. STULL and Thomas WATTS, seized at the suit of John and George Harry." Between 1820 and 1830 there are three Watts females married in the newspapers extracts by F. Edward Wright. There are 8 grooms listed in Morrow's marriage Index with the surname (Watt/Watts). In the will index by Morrow - Barton Watts has an estate document 1828, Lydia A. has an estate document and a will in 1882, and Thomas an estate document in 1829. There is a WATT, Jno. who has a will and estate document in 1815. In Morrow and Morrow's Distribution of Estate Accounts, Wash. Co. MD, 1778 - 1835 are these entries: WATTS, Barton. Adm. Henry 8/9/1831; Henry, Barton, Elizabeth Steward, Juliana Ringer, Priscilla, Susanna Summers T. $265.85 WATTS, Thomas. Adm. Sarah, Gera South 3/11/1830; widow, Ann, Rachel, Joseph, Sarah Ann, Elizabeth, Thomas B., William, Frisby D., Abraham T $6527.52 I don't know if that is your William. Gera South is married to one of the Watts females I mentioned above in the newspaper extractions. Good Hunting! In 1797 he married Nancy Ware in nearby Berkeley Co., Virginia (now WV). Nearly everything I know of him comes from his 1808 army enlistment records and his 1836 pension request. He stated that he was born in VA, but it’s possible his family came out of Maryland. I have no idea who his parents may have been. He might have had a brother named Charles. ********* Visit the threaded archives of this list: http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/index/MDWASHIN ********* ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message ********* Visit the threaded archives of this list: http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/index/MDWASHIN ********* ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message
