I am sending this inquiry to three lists: Allegany, Washington, and Frederick. I am looking for information on ancestors who lived in Allegany County. First entry for my ancestor is the 1788 list where he is listed as a Settler. The last record I have for him is dated 1805 when his patents are recorded for lots 3854 and 3855 of Deakin's Survey. I know he and his family left Allegany and settled in Licking County with a group of families most of which were enumerated near him in the 1800 census for George's Creek. I have been attempting to learn the name of his wife and where they were married. Her name was Catharine and she was born in 1760 in Maryland. One researcher gives her name as Catharine Corbus, however there is no reference for this information. This would indicate she may have been the daughter of Godfrey Corbus (Sr) who was living very near the Holtsberry (Holsbury) family in 1800. Moses Spicer deeded one of his lots to Nicholas Holsbury. He is not listed in the 1800 census but Cath Spicer is. Does anyone know if she is his widow? I would like some suggestions as to where to find early marriages for this area. I have not had any luck with the Archives. Can someone tell me location of this information? I realize depending on the actual date of the marriage, they may be in any of these counties.
