    1. Re: [MDWASHIN] CLEM - CLEMM
    2. Donna, Regarding Lauren's post of marriages, NICELY, MYERS, & GRAY are Shenandoah names connected to the CLEM families in Powels Big Fort area of the county. Passage Creek cuts through the middle of this valley running north to south. Powel's Fort is not a fort, it is a valley. It is called that because it provided protection from attach with a mountain range on both sides. The valley is narrow and long and this is where the CLEMS lived. http://www.rootsweb.com/~vashenan/vashenan.html If you go to this site, and put the above names in the search engine it will bring up some old documents (1760-1780) that mentioned their association. There is alot of information on the site concerning CLEMS. The site has an article on the DANIEL B. CLEM HOME which sold 8 November 1887 to JOHN A. G. CLEM & SARAH C. CLEM & GEORGE A. G. CLEM. The home was one of the oldest in Powel's Big Fort and was located 3 miles south of Detrick, Virginia on Route 74. Chocy
