Scharf's "History of Western Maryland," orig. pub. 1882, mentions these cemeteries in the Cavetown District: 1. German Reformed at Cavetown. 2. Lutheran Church graveyard in Cavetown. 3. St. Peter's or "Beard's" Church in Smithsburg. 4. Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Smithsburg. 5. Methodist Church of Smithsburg, organized 1831. Some tombstone inscriptions for all of these are included in the text.
