Hello, I would like to know the names and locations of any cemeteries around Cavetown that would have been there around 1830? I already know about the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church cemetery in Smithsburg. Is that the only location nearby? Thanks Nicky
Nicky, if you can get access to Vol. III (of 7) of the cemetery records you will find 12 cemeteries in the Cavetown District which are listed in the volume. Samuel Webster Piper read all of Washington County cemeteries with a completion date in the 1930's. Five of them are on farms and the rest are associated with churchs or towns. If you look through the publications you will note there are numerous unmarked graves and/or blank stones from weathering. My surname research group has witnessed a total erosion of some of our tombstones between 1986 and 2002 - so you are battling the elements when you are looking for old graves. You might be more successful in your search if you asked for lookups of a certain surname - the cemetery records are all indexed.
