    3. Richard, there is a general index to probate records 1777-1850 [FHL mf 14644] a microfilm you can bring in to any LDS Church Family History Center. There are some records that are at Maryland State Archives and some that are in the Washington County Courthouse. There are different kinds of probate records - wills, administration bonds, inventories of estates, administration accounts, estate distributions, orphans court proceedings as well as some other minor ones. The wills are in volumes by dates - for example Volumes A--B runs from 1777-1817 and so on and they are on microfilm. Someone who is more familiar with Maryland State Archives will tell you how to research there. The orphan's court proceedings are in a card index (#84) which covers the period 1806-1964 at MSA.
