This is an extract from the Minutes of the Committee of Observation of Elizabeth Town (later Hagerstown), MD in late 1776: "Dr. Col¹l Stull Treasurer for Washington County: 1776 Dec¹r 24 For so much received from the Dunkars and Menonist [sic] for their Fines v[i]z: received from John Miller £54 paid to him by the following: Jacob Broombaugh Jnr. £3..0..0 John Broombaugh £3..0..0 [others]." John Broombaugh/Brumbaugh was born about 1760-- which I guess at because Dunkers don¹t record infant baptisms because they had none, and to be subject to a non-enroller fine, he must have been eligible for military draft in 1776, therefore 16 or older, and 16 years before would put him born 1760-- married Mary Elizabeth Miller sometime about 1780-90. I do not know what family she came from, so as long as the subject is Millers in Washington County, MD, I thought I would ask if anyone knows which Miller family she came from -- perhaps a daughter of John Miller (above) above who is positively identified in an earlier Minute as "Dunker". What do you think? Does anyone know this family? Can you help me identify her date of marriage or parentage? Their children¹s names were: Eva Miller, Mary, David, Daniel, and Jacob S. Ideally I¹d like to get a cite to some piece of hard evidence too, but I know that is unlikely. Many thanks. Ned Donoghue
