    3. Bobbie~       Civil Records for the state of MD did not start until 1897 or 1898.  Any record previous would most likely be a sacramental record for Baptism.  If you are lucky, the mother's maiden might be on it.        You could try the 1880 census which would have your 4th great aunt listed a child of------, which would have the father listed as head of family.  This could give you an idea of their marriage year.  You could then contact the church of their chosen denomination which existed at that time for a record of the marriage.  That would have her maiden name one it.       I assume she had no siblings, male or female who did not marry for the surname to be known.       For a civil death certificate post 1898, I have just gone to the web site for MD Archives.  Followed the instructions, paid the fee, and had it within a few weeks for several of our family who expired in the early 20th century.   Mary Ellen Chambers ________________________________ From: Bobbie Brady <[email protected]> To: MDWASHINGTON <[email protected]> Sent: Mon, May 9, 2011 3:02:40 PM Subject: [MDWashin] Death Certificate Hello Everyone, I want to obtain a death certificate for my 4th Great Aunt, hoping it will have the maiden name of her mother on it. It looks like the State of Maryland has quite a few restrictions on obtaining one. Does anyone on this Genealogy Board have any suggestions for me???
