Marilee, My husband has an early line from his mother's side in Maryland - Mobberly that became Mobley over time. You might see what you can find about them - it has been so long since I worked on them I can't recall offhand which county - I'm sure a very early one. Passano's Source Records of Maryland has these entries: Mobberly - Frederick County Families, Markell Ms. Personal list. Moberley Medical Annals of MD, Cordell. 1903 p. 508 MD Hist. Soc. Mobley M.E. Church Burial ground, Laytonsville, Montgomery Co. MD. Md. Geneal. Rec. Com. 1934-35, pp 69-92. Mss. DAR. For Dyer there is Bible Rec. Ms. DAR. Patriotic Md., Md. Soc. of S.A.R. 1930; St. Paul's Parish, Balto. Vol. 3. Mss. MHS. There is also a manuscript of Dyer Family History - in the MHS. They also suggest seeing the spelling Dyre. - There is a DYRE family chart in the MHS. They list both spellings for a couple entries Dyre, Dyer family in genealogy collections. There is a Blue Print of a chart in both DAR and MHS listed separately from the first entry. There are no Dewar entries. Brumbaugh's Maryland Records lists a Rachel Mobberly who married William Burdit in Anne Arundel County May 6, 1777. Rice's This was the Life - Excerpts from the Judgment Records of Fred. Co. Md, 1748 - 1765 lists a John Mobley who lived in Linganore Hundred in 1751. In 1798 a Lewis Mobley had a letter at the Frederick Post Office (from Wright's newspaper extracts.) Have you tried the Frederick Co. Listserve?
