Here's more info about the Fahrney Keedy Home for the Aged from its website: The property for "Fahrney Memorial Home for the Aged" was a gift in 1905 from Dr. Peter Fahrney of Chicago to the Church of the Brethren. The gift was in honor of Dr. Fahrney's grandfather, of the same name, who had lived in Mapleville, Maryland. The church transferred and incorporated a small plot of land and a large eight-room building called "San Mar" that had served as the younger Dr. Fahrney's summer home. His grandfather's small office building stood on the same property until its move to a Washington County historical park. Major additions and renovations were made to the main facility in 1907, 1915, 1918, 1952, 1961, 1973, 1985, 1993 and 2001. In 1952 a bequest from the estate of Hagerstown businessman Clarence Keedy was accepted and the name of the facility was changed to Fahrney-Keedy Memorial Home. We became known as Fahrney-Keedy Home & Village when our Independent Living retirement village was begun in 1962; today it consists of 61 cottages and apartments.
