Christopher Barr is my 3rd gr. grandfather. All I have been able to find out on him is his marriage to Barbara Toby on 13 Apr 1809. Documented by state Archives. I have no birth date or name of parents. He was in a land dispute in 1812 and 1816 which I have a CD of the Chancery Court hearings. Barbara's brother, sisters and their husbands are all named but nothing on Christopher. I have no record of any church group that might have his birth so I don't know where to turn. Would any of you have an idea? This all took place in Washington Co. Christopher had 1 son, John, born 1 Apr 1810 in Washington Co. They moved sometime between 1816 and 1840 to Ohio. I have good documentation from 1840 to the present time. John married a Mary Buck in Allen Co., Ohio, documented, they moved to Ohio, Indiana and on to IA. Joe, One thing to keep in mind here. A person may have filed his intent in one county and moved, which would cause him to file his final papers in another county. Thanks for the offer, Michael: I have been searching without success for my Pennell ancestors from Washington County, Maryland. My gggrandmother was Eliza Pennell, born November 17, 1816. She had siblings: David, John, Polly, Mary, Charlotte, Margaret, Joanna, Daniel and possibly James. She was known as the French Lady, which would indicate she had a French accent. Regarding "Conococheague", among other things, it is a large creek running from the area of Chambersburg southward across Antrim Twp., Franklin Co. into Washington Co. MD and into the Potomac River around Williamsport just S-SW of Hagerstown. My KUHN ancestors lived near the Conococheague about five miles to the northwest of Greencastle, PA. John M. Rhodes

Would anyone on the list be researching the Semler line? James Semler is NOT in my husbands direct line but he married my husband's great-aunt. I would like to add his parents and his siblings to my FTM. I know it will be five or six weeks before I can get to the library and check the obituaries. James was born 8/9/1900 and died March1972. Lauren, I know you aren't local, but if anyone inquiring is local, I would suggest a check of the church records available at the Washington Co. Free Library, either in the Reference Dept. or in the Western Maryland Room. There are several volumes of records there. I've been able to locate many ancestors using them. Granted, these are transcriptions from the original German, but it has been a big help in my research.
