    1. Re: [MDWASHIN] family members inter-married
    2. Fran, Your example of two gggggg-gf's being brothers could mean the son of one married the daughter of the other (i.e., first cousins married)...or it could mean that later descendants married, i.e., second, third, fourth...cousins. I've found a number of each case. For example, my grandfather's sister married her first cousin, the son of her mother's sister. This marriage occurred around 1895. They lived a happy married life for approximately 60 years and died of old age. They had no children. Another example. A cousin of my mother married the daughter of his father's second wife. It was her second marriage, his fourth marriage. They had been childhood sweethearts but were forbidden to marry. She married and had nine sons; he married three times and had several children. They eventually got back together and had a wonderful few years before he suddenly died of a heart attack. It's all part of our wonderful diversity. But it does arouse the pucker factor in some people! John R.

    3. Hello everyone: Please forgive my intrusion. I only seek to ask a question. I know that many of you have found family members inter-married several times over, especially in the 1700's and early 1800's. I wonder if I could get your help and/or your opinion...how likely do you feel it would be to find that 2 of your 6th great-grandfathers were brothers? I have received documentation and other information from various family members, and records, and I have checked and re-checked. I thought I had already come across just about every inter-family type of connection. Has anyone encountered this situation? Thank you for your time and assistance. Fran

    1. Trip to Sir John's Run
    2. Sharon Banzhoff
    3. Patsy, Sir John's Run is located along the Potomac River in Morgan Co., WV between Berkeley Springs and Great Cacapon. The Morgan Co. Historical Society is located on the second floor of the public library in Berkeley Springs and the court house is only about 1½ blocks away on the same side of the street. Berkeley Springs has a lovely hotel and several lovely bed and breakfasts located within two blocks of the library and court house. I don't know if the hotel across from the court house is called the Berkeley Hotel or not but it is quite well known for its fabulous cuisine and mineral spas. I have heard several locals say if you don't have one of the wonderful massages at this hotel, you have cheated yourself out of the most delightful experiences ever. in fact, I know of several people in the Hagerstown area that go to Berkeley Springs several times a year just for the massage. Have a fun trip and good finds wherever you decide to stay.

    2. SageMarie
    3. Historical Society located in Martinsburg WVA has a lot on the tri co area. Western Maryland Room at the Library in Hagerstown is another great place to do research, lots of local family histories. Washington co Library in Hagerstown, and the Historical Society are in walking distance of the courthouse too. Can't remember the street but there is a pay parking lot behind the courthouse area. In front of courthouse if you go left a block or two is the historical society. I think the library is on Potomac Street. Check the Internet for location and time I think they are listed. They have nice B &B in the area. Does anyone have suggestions as to things I must be sure not to miss in the line of research? The courthouses are a must for me but is there a particular library or historical society that you would recommend? I'm hoping to locate burial spots and get some photos. During that time frame, you should be able to find death records giving the cause of death for the children. ----- Original Message ----- From: <RickyMcdanielrwv@aol.com> To: <MDWASHIN-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, August 12, 2004 2:26 PM Subject: [MDWASHIN] MEYERS/JACOBS > Good Afternoon, > While researching the Long Meadow Church of the Brethren Cemetery for my > HOFFMAN/PETRE kin, I noticed nine gravestones for the children of Jacob and > Anna K. 3. Ken and all, Here is a good link, that shows formations of counties of many states in the area. This link is for MD. Go down to the bottom of their screen and click on the years, or select 'play' as a slide-show. It will show the formations of the MD counties in the years they were created with a brief synopsis of which county they were taken from. I have found this very useful! http://www.negenealogy.com/md/md_maps/md_cf.htm ----- Original Message ----- From: Branches & Lil' Twigs To: MDWASHIN-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Thursday, August 12, 2004 7:53 AM Subject: Washington County I am not in the local area of Washington County. 3. Back in those times childhood illness was a terrible thing. Not, like now, with all of the vaccines and doctors. Water born illness was the most prevalent. But, be sure that being a kid in those times was dangerous.
