Roger, there is an estate not dated in the 1806-1816 time period for a Daniel Woolf. Adm. Jacob, Ludwick; widow, Catherine Kemmell, Elizabeth Hawn, Christine Powles, Jacob, Frederick. Maryland Advocate Oct. 31, 1899, John Wolf offers reward for apprentice to the boot and shoemaking business The Torchlight, Feb. 12, 1829. "Married same day by same [Thurs 5th inst by Rev. John Walter] Samuel Cyester to Miss Eve, oldest dau of Col. Jacob Wolf, all of Williamsport." Maryland Advocate, May 1, 1830, "Married 23d ult by Rev. H. Haverstock, Matthew Wolfe to Miss Sarah H. McMecken, both of Moorefield Va." That is all of the Wolfe sightings I could turn up. Is Wolfsville in Frederick Co. named after one of these families? Roger, Daniel appears to be the "Daniel Wolf" listed in the 1870 census for Hauvers District, Frederick Co, MD. Wolf, Daniel, 37, farmer ---, Catharine A., 37, keeping house ---, James, M, 14 ---, Samuel, M, 13 ---, Cordelia, F, 10 ---, Clara E., F, 8 ---, Roman, M, 4 ---, Linnie M., F, 1 All born MD. But, if the date is right and it's the same "Catherine A.," then she would have been abt 104 at her death in 1938! Tom, the marriage index indicates David Speck/Reb. Stouffer - 12/28/1843 so Rebecca was married a year before Mary was born. There is no marriage in the index for Rebecca Speck which she may have been if she was divorced and that marriage is the only one for a Rebecca Stouffer. It covers 1799-1860 for Washington County. There is an estate for a Jacob Stouffer. Adm. Christian 3/1/1823; sum reserved for latent claims $3, specific legacy to Samuel $20, 12 heirs each $278.21.[heirs were not named in the index]. There is also an estate for Christian. Adm. John, 7/24/1830; Catherine Spessert, Elizabeth Snyder, Nancy Rowland, Sarah Emmert, John, Ann Poffenberger, Samuel, Lydia, David, Christian and Jacob. There were distributions through 1832. An item in TheTorchlight Oct. 9, 1828 "Died Sunday last Mrs. Stouffer, wife of Christian near Funkstown. There are two marriages for Christian Stouffer, Nancy Varner 10/7/1826 and another in 1831 so there must be at least two Christians - the second married a year after the first died. Sorry, I am not a Stouffer researcher. I am just looking up information in my resources for people. From the number of them in the marriage index and the sizes of the families, I'd bet someone on the list is related to them and might be able to shed some light for you. Roger may have more in his database. Lauren Brantner Tom Ford wrote: >Lauren: Do you know if Mary E. Stouffer was ever call Rebecca or had a >sister Rebecca? Larry, Thanks so much for the lookup. I am now just as confused as ever--my (?) Letitia Smith d. 17 Mar 1850. I'm thinking she was Nancy's mother. Another Letitia Smith, who lived next door to Nancy, was 31 in the 1850 census, meaning that she was born c1819. I figured she must have been Nancy's sister. So who was Letitia C. Smith, b. 1806 d. 1868? And was Margaret Smith any relation? Too many Smiths ;-[ -- but I do appreciate your efforts. Sorry, I looked through all seven cemetery books and no Nancy Davis with that date. I found about 3 Nancy Davis but death dates were not close enough. I am not sure that the cemetery where Letitia Smith is buried is still there. The heading says: "Methodist Churchyard, Boonsboro, MD, where I.O.R.M. Hall is now located" Letitia C. Smith age 62y, died 27 Oct 1868 Margaret Smith age 29y, died 4 Jun 1844 That's all the Smiths buried. There are only about 30 burials in that cemetery .............Larry ****************************8 On Mon, 30 Aug 2004 13:31:35 -0400 alice Walker <awalker@vt.edu> writes: > I wonder if someone with access to Washington County Cemetery Records > > could please do me a big favor and look for the burial place of > Nancy Smith Davis who died 16 Oct 1832 in Boonsboro.
