Mike: Do you want just the Rouzer's or all the variations: Rauser, Rausser,Rauzer,Rouser, Rousser, Rouzer. If you want them all, I can copy the pages and fax them to you, if you have a fax #. Or scan the pages and send them to you. I think I can figure that out. We are also connected through the Row/McClain line, if you remember. I still have info to send you on the Row line. It's in my pile of things to do! Ruth -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of J. Lauren, Thank you very much for this extensive reply. I will look at all of it. We pretty much know those in Washington County around Hagerstown, but there is one elusive child named Daniel or David in the group in Frederick County. We have no birth record for him, or a marriage record for the parents. No luck in this volume for the marriage you're searching for. Myers' Marriage Licenses of Frederick Co. Md 1778-1810 These are what I found there. There are some in the Wash. Another approach to the Tracey maps, including the original cardfile tract index and digitized images of the maps has been installed on plats.net, accessible under Washington County. You can also find the 1851 wall map in high resolution there - and the USGenWeb site for Washington Co. uploaded this a few years ago -- as well as a photostat of the 1889 rendition of it (a huge file, last time I looked it had a wrong filename suffix, but maybe they've fixed it). Good hunting, Judy
Hi, Does anyone on this list have a copy of: Maryland German Church (Apples's Church) near Thurmont Frederick Co., MD and Union Church, (Creagerstown) Records Translated by Frederick S. Weiser I'd like a lookup in either of these churches for themarriage of Henry Peagley/Peakley/Pinckley/Pinkley/Binkley before 1800. And also baptisms of any children before 1800, especially that of a son on 12/1/1799, named either David or Daniel. Bruce Fosnocht
You might be able to get copies of the original Certificates of Survey for these tracts from the MD Archives. They do not appear to be on the MD Archives' plats.net site. There was some dispute as to boundaries of these two tracts, the tract Canaan and others in the 1790s and 1820s. Maybe proper surveys were never filed originally, but the case file for the chancery case should have as much mapping as you'd want to see. Good hunting, Judy Bill Good writes: Lauren, Washington Co. List I was wondering if there is a MAP of Boonsboro showing the land tracts "Beals Chance" or "Fellowship" that Boonsboro was formed from. I am platting deeds in and around the area and the location of "Beals Chance" within Boonsboro is critical to accurately placing the plats.
Bill, Most of the work I've done has been in the areas of Park Hall, Rohrersville and Eakles Mill. Boonsboro is further north and I don't have any "starting point" for plats in that area. The Tracey Maps are on line at several locations, the following probably the easiest to get to. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~midmdroots/county/index.htm#Top The Tracey Maps, once you learn to navigate the site, will show you approximate locations of the different tracts, something I believe you already know. Exact starting points are usually tough to find. If I remember correctly, the following book: Descendants of Daniel Wolfe 1732-1807 by Charles C. Wolf has a very detailed location for a lot purchased by a Frederick Wolf [1776-1853] in Boonsboro. That could give you your starting point. You may be able to find a copy of the book in some libraries. Another trick you might try is to trace the deed transfers into present day ownership and find the present days person's address. Best wishes, Jim -----Original Message----- From: Lauren Brantner Sent: Tuesday, August 16, 2011 3:50 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [MDWashin] Lydia Shunk Cemetery- Boonsboro plats Bill, I have not worked with the plat maps extensively but Jim Bartholomew on this list has done quite a bit of this type of work on his own and adjoining family parcels. He may able to help you. Sometimes it involves chaining the real estate back and putting smaller parcels back together to form larger ones. The land records are online. Incidentally, William's History of Washington County is online now. There is also a small History of Boonsboro around -I think written by a local historian. I don't know if it is online anywhere. Curtis Older's The Braddock Expedition and Fox's Gap in Maryland has maps in it and he does a good bit of map analysis - his research is cited for sources. I also recall that there is a map collection somewhere I think it is called the Tracey Collection - I think in Carroll County Historical Society. Maybe someone on the list can help with that information. Gordon I am familiar with the Falls Rd area in Balt Co. I used to go fishing in Pretty Boy Dam. I'm sure you are talking about the Rte 40 off the Baltimore Beltway (695). 40 East goes into Balt City and 40 West to Catonsvillle. The Part of Route 40 West I am talking about is the Old Rte 40 West (Wagon Road) that Goes to WV and Ohio. I remember when Parts of Old 40 West was tore up to build I-70. You'll have to go out onto Rte 70 a few times and then pick up 40 again but the ride is worth it. There was a time when I had to use Rte 40 to get to Garrett Co. MD and Morgantown WV. Bill, I have not worked with the plat maps extensively but Jim Bartholomew on this list has done quite a bit of this type of work on his own and adjoining family parcels. Lauren, Washington Co. Thanks for your time. Remember ladies that like other States counties were broken up. Going by memory I think the whole area was originally part of Prince georges Co. and then split into Frederick Co. and thence part became Washington County.. So pinpointing where a person was born in Maryland during that period of time is not easy. Perhaps the Hall of Records in Annapolis would have a record of his birth. Patricia: I live off the Falls Rd. about a mile north of Padonia road, so when I got to Franklin Co. where mine originally settled, I go up the Falls road a mile or so to RIDGE Rd. this goes across country to Greenspring Ave and I turn right into it and foloow it down into the valley and West towards Reisterstown where it changes its name to Butler Road. At Reisterstown I get one 140 and take that all the way to Md. Line where it becomes Pennsylvania route 16. Ridge road was a Indian trail and still is it winds across country and has several corkscrew curves in it. You would never recognize Glyndon these days, they have put up some modern commercial bldgs and shopping centers just before you get to the railroad bridge. Resiterstown along Resiterstown Rd is being "upgraded" to make it more quaint etc.You wouldn't want to use the old Rt. 40 West today, it has become a totally black area from city line all the way past Randalstown amd has lots of crime etc. I probably have relatives in Washington Co. as all of those Crooks about 20 some families are all from Robert Crooks Jr. who would be my 5th removed cousin, he and his brother Joseph married the daughters of Jacob Emmitt, the founder of Emmittsburg. Where are you living now ? Judy, thanks. Don't now where the Hagerstown came from. Linda In a message dated 8/15/2011 9:51:46 A.M. Eastern Daylight Time, [email protected] writes: Linda writes: George Steorts (versions of the name include Stots, Stotz, Sturtz, Storts, etc.) was born according to the 1850 census in Hagerstown, MD in 1769. The 1850 US Census states he was born in "Md.", not "in Hagerstown." There are indeed occasional local 1850 enumerations that give a County of birth, but this is not one of them (for Lewis County, (West) Virginia, which was set off from Harrison and Randolph Counties in 1816). I remember before MD I - 70/68 was built. We had to use Old Rte 40 West. I lived in Reisterstown MD in Balt Co. for a while. I know most of the area. Can you tell me what Rte (Indian Trail) you are taking to get to Reisterstown? Linda writes: George Steorts (versions of the name include Stots, Stotz, Sturtz, Storts, etc.) was born according to the 1850 census in Hagerstown, MD in 1769. The 1850 US Census states he was born in "Md.", not "in Hagerstown." There are indeed occasional local 1850 enumerations that give a County of birth, but this is not one of them (for Lewis County, (West) Virginia, which was set off from Harrison and Randolph Counties in 1816). Good hunting, Judy
More info on the cemetery can be found if you google WA-II-048 and WA-II-078, Maryland Historical Trust. Apparently, the name is either Shunk's or Shank's and the cemetery was attached to an early Reformed German church on the site. The WA-II-078 paper has photos of the cemetery from 1974 when the Trust was working to name it as an historical site.
