    3. Thank you very much. Just lately I was thinking that I should check Fredrick County records since my ancestor owned land that was definitely part of Frederick County in 1774. Now I will folow through on that hunch! 3. The Political History of Maryland is: Original Counties = 1617 - St. Mary's, formed much as it is today 1642 (by) Kent 1650 - Anne Arundel 1654 - Calvert 1658 - Charles created included what is today P.G., Montgomery, Frederick, Washington and west 1659/60 - Baltimore County which included Baltimore City 1661/62 - Talbot 1666 - Somerset Additional counties formed from or taken from above original = 1669 - Dorcester from Somerset and Talbot 1674 - Cecil from Baltimore and Kent 1696 - Prince George's from Calvert and Charles 1706 - Queen Anne's from Dorcester, Kent and Talbot 1747 - Worcester from Somerset 1748 - Frederick from Baltimore and Prince Georges 1773 - Caroline from Dorcester and Queen Anne's 1776 - Montgomery from Frederick 1776 - Washington from Frederick 1789 - Alleghany from Washington 1837 - Carroll from Baltimore and Frederick 1851 - Baltimore City from Baltimore County 1851 - Howard from Anne Arundel 1867 - Wicomico from Somerset and Worcester 1872 - Garrett from Alleghany In other words, "No Washington County was not part of Baltimore County in 1776, it was part of Frederick County". When researching, especially western Maryland, one must watch dates, since at one time what is now western Maryland was part of Charles County. Also, one must remember, that during the colonization days and shortly afterwards, official acts, such as births and marriages, were not always filed with the Court House of that county. It was often the practice of filing such acts with any Court House when someone was going to that Court House. Then, too, often births and marriages were not recorded with any Court House; they may have been recorded in a church record somewhere, or never officially recorded. This may all be more than you really wanted to know, and I'm sorry if it is and disturbed you. 3. IN estate distributions is this entry: SMITH, Joseph. Adm. Michael. 12/18/1823; Peter, Susannah, Joseph, Elizabeth, John, (use of Jacob's heirs) Jacob's heirs, Margaret Adams, Michael. There is a marriage: SMITH, Michael/Sus. Neybert 4/8/1809 There is nothing in F. Edward Wright's newspaper extractions from 1820-1830 and there is no Michael Smith in Vol. II and III of the cemetery records. There is a Michael P. Smith who shows up in the marriage records in the 1830's and in estate distributions. 1. Solomon Smith
    2. I am interested in finding the parents of Solomon Smth, born 4-6-1817, near Rohrersville, Maryland, and died 7-30-1903, Culver, Kansas, who married Sophia Thomas, daughter of Michael and Mary Painter Thomas. Solomon had a brother Elias Y. Smith, born 12-17-13, near Rohrersville, Maryland, and died 3-17-1900, Carroll County, Illinois. Elias married Mary Ann Watson, daughter of Richard and Sarah Watson. We have been searching for years now for the names of the parents of Solomon Smith and his brother Elias Y. Smith. Any information any one may have will be appreciated. Solomon migrated to Kansas, and his brother Elias Y. Smith migrated to Carroll County, Illinois. Ellen Smith, Hagerstown, MD

    3. Roger, thanks for sharing Solomon's descendants. Solomon Smith was born May 31, 1814 and died July 3, 1856 in Frederick Co., MD. He is buried in Zion Lutheran Church in Middleton, MD. Solomon is the son of Johannes/John Smith and Susanna Derr who married 10 April 1813 in Frederick Co., MD (license/bond date). Solomon Smith was living with his parents in the 1850 census in Middletown Election Dist., Frederick Co., MD. Solomon's two children John V. and Susan L. were ages 12 and 10, and there was a Maria Smith, age 27, who may be Solomon's wife listed just below Solomon. John Smith is the son of Henry Smith Jr. 1759 and Appolonia Sheffer 1761. ----- Original Message ----- From: <Mdre007@aol.com> To: <MDWASHIN-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, September 28, 2004 10:32 AM Subject: Re: [MDWASHIN] Solomon Smith > Hi Roger, I saw your e-mail this mornig on Solomon SMITH. 3. Brian, There are two grooms in the marriage index which goes from 1799-1860: Fred. TRAVER/Catherine GEELER 8/2/1830 And. J./Mary Eliz. Bowles 10/29/1855 and one bride: TRAVER, Sarah/MUCK Jc. 6/11/1819 There is nothing in Wright's newspaper extractions 1820-1830 and nothing in Vol. II and III of the cemetery records. Hopefully someone else will have more in their resources. Lauren Brantner Hberg70@aol.com wrote: >Does any one know more about this family please : > >John L. TRAVER, born 1861 in Ogle Co.
