    1. Stottlemyer Families book
    2. Susan McIntyre
    3. Does anyone on the list have a copy of the book... "Our Maryland Heritage, Book Eleven: The Stottlemyer Families" by William Neal Hurley, Jr. and would be willing to do a quick lookup for me? I have found it noted that the book is supposed to contain a listing for an ALEXANDER male who married a STADELMAYER female. Thank you for any help or direction you are able to offer, Susan McIntyre

    3. Readers, FYI. If you surround a web address or URL with <> then you will not have this problem - with or without a period at the end. This will also prevent word wrap from splitting up long URL's into non-clickable messages. For example -> < www.yourfavoriategenealogywebaddresswithaverylongaddress.com >. Regards, Bob ----- Original Message ----- From: "Mike Rohrer" <mrohrer@usa.com> To: <MDWASHIN-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, October 09, 2004 2:51 PM Subject: Re: [MDWASHIN] Genealogy Atlas - Historic maps of North America Kenneth, I would like to point out that just clicking on the URL doesn't work because the period at the end is part of the hyperlink. You need to delete that period in order to make it work. This bill, which purpose is to respond to the threat of terrorism, is on a fast track to passage and has been voted on by several committees already. Your help is needed now. > > David Rencher, Chairman of the Record Access and Preservation Committee, a joint committee of the National Genealogical Society and Federation of Genealogical Societies, has sent a letter to the bill's sponsor, Congressman Dennis Hastert, recommending an amendment to the bill as follows: > > "However, nothing in this Chapter 2 shall be construed to require a State to change its law with respect to public access to (A) non-certified copies of birth certificates, or to (B) birth certificates or birth records once a period of 100 years has elapsed from the date of creation of the certificate or record." > > A copy of the letter is available on the FGS site at www.fgs.org/rpa/formalactions.htm. > > To view this bill, go to http://thomas.loc.gov. > Enter HR 10 in the search box for "Bill Number." > > Action Is Needed Now > Because this bill is moving toward passage so quickly, it is urged that the genealogical community take action immediately and let their representatives know that they are in support of David Rencher's amendment and the FGS position in this important matter. To find your state representative's contact information, go to www.house.gov/writerep/. > > How Should I Word My Letter? > While you should word the letter in any way that is comfortable for you, it is recommended that you include the following as a portion of the letter: > > "While I support the intention to increase security to protect the U.S. from terrorists and those who wish to improperly take U.S. identities, I am concerned that those researching their family's history continue to have access to non-certified birth records. > > Therefore, in order to support HR-10 I ask that you amend HR-10 Section 3063(d)(2) by adding the following wording to the existing paragraph: > > 'However, nothing in this Chapter 2 shall be construed to require a State to change its law with respect to public access to (A) non-certified copies of birth certificates or to (B) birth certificates or birth records once a period of 100 years has elapsed from the date of creation of the certificate or record.' > > I believe that this additional language is imperative so that the states do not react by restricting all certificates to comply with the law, rather than dealing with certified as opposed to non-certified birth certificates. This proposed amendatory language would remind them that they can and should be treated differently."

    1. Re: [MDWASHIN] Timothy Downey
    2. Lauren Brantner
    3. Roger there are several Downey estates: Joseph - 1802 Robert - 1793 William - 1792 William - 1813 None of them mention Timothy and each has different heirs. There was a large equity case in 1829 over an estate for Samuel Downey who died intestate in1828 (over a dozen heirs). At that point in time, many of the heirs were living out of state. Nothing ties back for this person. Let me know if you want particulars to sort with later. You have the only marriage date in the index. 3. Thank you, Lauren. These are some of the Burrells that stayed behind. When I menioned my opinion on name spelling differences, I was refering to the very early times. This family started out in Prince George (?), then Fredrick, then Washington. Has been a very confusing family to trace. A distant cousin has found information, but I was trying to do some of my own verifying. It isn't fair to ride the shirt tails of others if we don't need to. 3. Hello fellow listers, This was posted to another mailing list, I thought there may be researchers here that may find useful. If some of you are interested in seeing some original state atlases..there are some at http://www.genealogyatlas.com/index.htm. Earliest being 1795, 1814, 1822, 1845. New maps are being added. They have created 3 different formats to include: pdf, jpeg and html. Choose which suits your viewing pleasure best. Use the PDF format because you can zoom in and out and print them easily from your computer. Allow a few moments to load if you are using a dial-up connection. But they are worth the wait. 3. Kenneth, I would like to point out that just clicking on the URL doesn't work because the period at the end is part of the hyperlink. You need to delete that period in order to make it work. 3. Carrol, I do not do comprehensive family research for others - I simply do lookups in the resources I have as time allows. Since I live in Colorado, I can't check out anything local. Anything earlier than 1776 is Frederick County and I do not have Frederick County resources. Perhaps others on the list who have those resources will do a lookup for you or you might contact that list. I look at spelling variations as a commonplace happening of earlier times. I just deal with it by keeping lists of alternate spellings so I don't miss something when I am researching and I appreciate it when someone else finds another variation that I didn't know about. (I hate having to backtrack to look again for a different spelling.) There are some online resources with regard to land records - check both the Maryland State GenWeb sight and the Washington County. Some land records are available by microfilm - through the nearest LDS Family History Center or perhaps by interlibrary loan through your library and Maryland State Archives. Here is a bit from the 1783 tax list on the state site: > Benjamin Burrell. What You Please, 85 acres. WA Lower Antietam and > Sharpsburg p. 32. MSA S1161-11-1. 1/4/5/54 > > Jane Burrell. MSA S1161-11-1. 1/4/5/54 > MSA refers to Maryland State Archives. There are a couple earlier tax lists from the 1600's there too. I'd also check the 1790 census to see who is where. 3. Lauren, those are some of the Burrells I am looking for. I attribute the name difference either from poor handwriting or inability to spell. Do find anything earlier than 1776? I think most of the family had left for Ohio after that time. How about in connection with the surname CHAPLINE? Possibly a plantation also by the name of Content or Contentment? Thanks. 3. There are two grooms in the Washington County Marriage index which begins in 1799 - these are both before 1810. There is an alternate spelling listed in the index BURROLL. Richard/Ruhanmah Wade 6/4/1800 Benj./ Sus. Weaver 8/29/1807 There are no estates in the estate distributions which run from 1778-1835. Lauren Brantner Carrol Baker wrote: >Hey!!!
