    3. Look on ABEBOOKS.com and you'll find them - Williams is pretty pricey though - usually over $100 for the two volumes. You can get a CD of Scharf's History of Western MD for about $28 - I've seen it for sale several places. It would be nice to have both of those standard reference works in your home library. Mike, I must have transposed numbers when I plugged it into the calculator. I also noticed in the marriage index there is a TROVINGER, Cath./Abigale Smith 3/23/1822. There is a note that it is cross indexed the same way. In Wright's extracts the groom's name is Abijah Smith. They were married Sun the 24th by Rev. Kurtz. There is also a small death notice in the Maryland Herald, Dec. 19, 1820. "Died Sun morning last at his res about 3 miles from Hagers-town, after a lingering illness, Christopher Trovinger, in the 64th year of his age." 3. Robert: You can also go to Md. Archives web site and then click into Vitial Records and then enter into the system and look for a death notice. If you know the approx period of time that they died you can jump forward to that period and cut down on all the scrolling. If you find them it will only show full name, date of death and what County, but with that you can go forward in your search. 1. Re: [MDWASHIN] Wolford family inquiry
    2. Robert, I have not been able to locate Jacob Mansfield Wolford and his wife Ida Kate Lindsay Wolford in Maryland census records of 1910 or 1920. She was not in the obit finder for Hagerstown,Md. papers. To obtain a death record from Maryland, send a self addressed, stamped envelope to Maryland State Office, Division of Vital Records, P.O. 68760; 6550 Reisterstown Road, Baltimore, Maryland 21205. The request for death certificate should include full name of deceased, name of spouse, name of parents, date and place of death. The cost of search and copying of certificate is $ 12.00 per request. Death certificates may be difficult to find. A family member was born in Penna., lived in Maryland for 50 years, died on Penna turnpike, memorial church service in Maryland and buried in Maryland. Of course, the death certificate was found in Pennsylvania.

    3. Lauren, Thanks much. That little Christopher Trovinger tidbit actually clears up a small mystery. I had two different dates for his death, Oct 17 and Dec 17, 1820. The Maryland Herald notice nails it--I looked it up, and the Sunday before Dec 19 was Dec 17, 1820. Christopher is my earliest Trovinger, having married Anna Barbara KIMMEL, b. Ephrata, PA, daughter of my 4th gr grandfather, Adam KIMMEL (1733-1778), an Am Rev soldier. Mike > > Mike, I must have transposed numbers when I plugged it into the > calculator. 3. Lauren, Thank you. The Joseph TROVINGER who d. 11 May 1908 is the fellow I was looking for. At age 75y, 4m, 25d his birth calculates exactly to the 16 Dec 1832 date I had for him. 2. Jacob Harbaugh's Cemetery is on private property in Sabillsville, Maryland on HWY 550. There is another cemetery on the old Elias Harbaugh property. George Harbaugh's is next to Harbaugh Church outside of Waynesboro,PA near pen Mar. At the Harbaugh reunion in June, some of the old Harbaugh sites may be viewed. Faith E. Berghofer

During WWI many changed the name from the German spelling to the English Falkner. I received this information from a Falkner friend whose family is from Nichols Co West Virginia. I had sent him some information I found on the Falkners in Washington Co Md. Being so close to West Virginia I thought there may be a connection. I hope this will some way help you in your search. You never know what you are going to find just by talking to friends, I have known this family for almost 30 yrs and never knew their name had been changed. Below is his reply Interesting, but my father's family name was Fockler until 1917 in WW I when they changed it from German spelling to English. He had 9 siblings, some changed spelling, some didn't. Dad was 11 then. In 1919, at 13, he went to work in coal mines and changed his name so he could get a job.

(n.o.i.) This is from Vol. III of the cemetery records. The birthdate calculator for the first Joseph indicates his birthday is 27 Dec. 1855. Might you have another Joseph than you suspected?
