    3. Lauren - I am going to have to look - this is really a great clue, though. My cousin just wrote to say that our William Pope's occupation was "currier". If the apprentice he was looking for was in the tanning and currying business then it makes it even more likely. Thank you so much for sharing this. 3. Older books have often been put on microfilm by the LDS church and are available through your local Family History Center. From home, you can check to see if the book has been microfilmed by going to: www.familysearch.org, then Search, etc. To locate your nearest FHC, go to the Family History Centers on the left had menu about the LDS church, then fill in the info as requested. If the book has been microfilmed, you can borrow it for a minimal fee ($3.25 here in MD) for a month, and if it is something you think you would want to have available permanently you can have it on Indefinite Loan for an additional $6.50 and it will always be available to you at your nearest FHC when they are open. 3. It just dawned on me that mtg co is an abbreviation for Montgomery County - you might go Pope hunting there. It is hard enough to find information but tracking a runaway apprentice might be a trick. I will tell you that I found vital information at Maryland State Archives on one of my trips back there in Washington County apprentice records. Some of them were incredibly detailed with information about parents, etc. You may have to do so sleuthing about if those records exist for that county still, and where they would be. I have encountered other runaway apprentice notices in these newspaper extracts. 2. Thank you...I did bid...now, lets just see how far this goes; should I win I will gladly post info on the early settlers if asked... Next question for the list(again, please excuse my gaps in education); I am reading this grat book on the Early America. The author notes there were three distinct areas of settlement; The Coast, the middle colonies and the Chesapeake region...does anyone on know of an internet map outlining these areas? Seems the settlers in the Chesapeake region were a little less "cultured". Sounds like a few of my lines :) Terri On Mon, 01 Nov 2004 21:17:58 -0500, John112G3 wrote > Try EBAY Item #4500570746. 3. abebooks at http://www.abebooks.com/ offers several used copies - the cheapest is $125.00 have you asked your local library to see if it is offered for interlibrary loan either in book or microfilm form? tkfarrowwelker@wowway.com wrote: >First, just in case anyone else on this list is as backward as I am; > >I had always thought a yoeman would be a sailer or such...now I read that it >is actually a farmer...such gaps in my education! :) > > >Second; I see where there are really great history books on Md but they are >not to be removed from the library. Mike, I must have transposed numbers when I plugged it into the calculator. I also noticed in the marriage index there is a TROVINGER, Cath./Abigale Smith 3/23/1822. There is a note that it is cross indexed the same way. In Wright's extracts the groom's name is Abijah Smith. They were married Sun the 24th by Rev. Kurtz. There is also a small death notice in the Maryland Herald, Dec. 19, 1820. "Died Sun morning last at his res about 3 miles from Hagers-town, after a lingering illness, Christopher Trovinger, in the 64th year of his age." Your Trovingers aren't nearly as numerous as your Rohrers. Lauren Mike Rohrer wrote: >Lauren, > >Thank you. The Joseph TROVINGER who d. 11 May 1908 is the fellow I was looking for. At age 75y, 4m, 25d his birth calculates exactly to the 16 Dec 1832 date I had for him. Also, Susan M., w/o Joseph, was born Susan Melvina EAKLE about 1843 according to census records. Your date and age give her a birthdate of 5 Sep 1842, which is a pretty darn good match. > >Funny, though, I don't know who Howard and Daisy are. 3. It has been republished by Higginson Book Co., but the new seems to be just as pricey as the old. 1. Yoeman AND The History of Washington County...
    2. First, just in case anyone else on this list is as backward as I am; I had always thought a yoeman would be a sailer or such...now I read that it is actually a farmer...such gaps in my education! :) Second; I see where there are really great history books on Md but they are not to be removed from the library. Has anyone purchased The History of Washington County Maryland from the Earliest Settlements to the Present Time? Vol I and II by Thomas John Chew Williams. I would love to read these books but could never spend that much time at the library...I cannot locate them to buy. Thanks for any direction, Terri FARROW -- WOW! Homepage (http://www.wowway.com)
