We are adding 5 new VERY LARGE (3 x 30 each) charts to the one of last year with even more known descendents of Capt. John Norwood. Our Norwood genealogists have added thousands of names and information since last year.
I need to know where is District 2 in Washington County 1850 census. Has anyone figured that out yet? Does it include Hancock? Cindy H.
Roger, I have a lot of Houpt relatives in my file, but not this one. A check of the 1870 census in "Houpt territory" District 3, Bolivar Post Office shows a Josh. Houpt 13 living with a Gideon Slifer 69 and Mary Ann 72. My guess would be that Joshua's parents died and he's living with his grandparents. I find it very interesting that in the 1850 census of Mt. Morris Twp, Ogle County, IL, there is a Joshua Slifer born in Maryland. Possibly he is the son of Gideon back here in Frederick County? Maybe his sister, Mary married a Houpt and named her son after her brother. Wouldn't surprise me since Boliver is near the center of where the Houpts lived in those days. I don't have the marriage records database, but maybe someone could do a look-up for Houpt/Sliver marriages in Maryland? Thanks, Cindy H.
According to the History of Western Maryland, John Donovan was living in or around Hartford in 1793. He owned a tavern at one point and an island. He donated land for a cemetery. Can anyone tell me anything more about him? Did he marry? Who? Did he have children? Unfortunately, he is not listed in the index and I only found him on page 1251 due to the kindness of a stranger. Any and all information gratefully received. Jeannie Gayle

Could someone with access to 1850 and 1860 Washington Co. census lists look for LETITIA SMITH? She was a widow in the 1840 census, living in Boonsboro, and had three daughters. I am looking for names of the three daughters. One daughter may have been Letitia C. Smith. Thanks for your help.
The name John Donovan/Dunavon/Dunniven/Doniphan/etc in MD and VA during that time period where as numerous as ants and dam't near impossible to link.... Tons of Johns/Williams/James are documented in the Revolutionary War rolls. Therefore - a might difficult to follow geographically. Joe, There is only one Weaver listed, a Nora. There are also several Weber listings, but sorry no Charles. These records are almost all German, and so Charles would be pretty unusual. Can someone tell me whether or not the names of the prisoners that were held at Hagerstown during the Rev War have been published anywhere? Karen
Mike, Please check for Charles Weaver, born ca. 1795-1800. I appreciate your kindness to provide this help. Thank you. Joe
There are many, many reasons why you may not find someone listed. Some additional ones that I have run into: My father who died in 1970 is not listed -- but he was a federal government employee. His "death benefit" did not come from social security, but from the federal retirement system. My father's sister is not listed -- she married a doctor and he didn't want or need the $255.00 benefit. My uncle that I always knew as Uncle Phil Recher shows up as H. Recher in the death benefits. It turns out his full name was Henry Phillip Recher -- and I never knew that while he was living. In Guernsey county, the health department has the death certificates and they let you read them at no cost. If you know the town, you could have someone or go there yourself and read the info. -----Original Message----- From: USER0703@aol.com [mailto:USER0703@aol.com] Sent: Wednesday, February 09, 2005 7:37 AM To: MDWASHIN-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [MDWASHIN] Research question 3) I live in Ohio as did the individual I am trying to identify. Though I have a date of death there was no obituary. I would rather not pay $15.00 for a certified death certificate but that is all Ohio offers. Does anyone know of any other means of tracking this without paying for the certificate?
