    1. CHRISTOPHER BARR
    2. Ruth Tysor
    3. I'm still going in circles on this man. "Thank you" to everyone that has tried to help. The other names I have, is a list of marriages. They could possibly be his siblings. David/Susanna Ridenour 10/2/1805 Christopher/Barbara Toby 4/13/09 My 3rd gr. grandparents John/Betsy Rohrer l/19/11 Jacob/Mary Miller 5/21/11 Benj./Mary Tutwiler 3/7/16 John/Nancy Winders 3/8/25 John/Mary Showman 2/8/26 Christian/Susanna Bachtel 6/3/16 There are other female Barrs but their dates are much later. Christopher/Barbara Toby, John/Mary Buck, William Dunn/Mary Elizabeth Estes, Harvey Colwell/Virdie White. are the main names. My Harvey was born here in Iowa in 1880. I found a Harvey in Tenn today that was also from England, so I must try to find out about that. I also found two books listed on Familysearch, "The Promised Land: the story of the Barr colonists by C. Wetton. Also, Muddling Through: the remarkable story of the Barr colonists by Lynn Bowen. The Barr Colony covered land in the provinces of Alberta and Saskatchewan. I suppose anything is possible here but I can't believe this has anything to do with my Barrs but maybe it will help some one else. I found a John Barr on the list of the Ship "Defence" on 19 Sept 1776 for state of MD. I've decided to study their travel habits. MD. to Holmes Co. Ohio, to Whitely, Ind. Have no idea how they got to west central Iowa from Indiana in 1854, and I've copied every census I can find. I have no idea how to find church information from that area. I love old newspaper clippings. I think they give a true picture of life during that time. Sorry if I'm long winded!! Ruth in SW Iowa

    3. Look at land records - follow the county evolution back - if they owned land they will show up. Anything that early (pre 1776) is in Frederick County or it's predecessor - wouldn't be Washington County. George Ely Russell has written a research guide for Frederick County published by Catoctin Press. I use his Washington County research guide all the time. 1. Charles H Riley
    2. Margaret Davis
    3. Is there anyone connected to Charles H Riley born about 1867 in Warren county Virginia. He moved to Washington County near Boonesboro in the early 1900's. At that time his first wife Lillie Clark Riley died and he remarried to a Clara maiden name unknown. He also had his mother living with him. I would love to locate if she died there in Boonesboro or back in Virginia. Her name was Roberta Berthena Costello, born about 1850 she married Riley then Thomas and last Alexander. But in 1910 she was listed with Charles Riley as last name Riley at that time her husband Robert Alexander (from Virginia ) had also passed away. Any information on this family would be appreciated.

    2. Hi Lauren, I will have to sort through some papers, but I had a census that showed an Elizabeth Aldridge living with Otha and family. The year may have been 1850? By that time they were living in Ogle Co. IL. This census listed an Almira as the oldest child but there was not an Emma listed. I believe that the Elizabeth may have been Susan's mother, (by her age.) Maybe Elizabeth had married again to someone whose last name was Aldridge and he had died too. Thanks, Brenda

    3. Christopher turns up in an Ancestry database that is Marsha Lynn Fuller's book on Washington County Naturalizations prior to 1880. The year 1810 is listed - info is in the Washington County Courthouse too - date & port of arrival, place of origin, place of naturalization etc. are listed. I don't have that book, but perhaps someone on the list does. Or if you're close to the courthouse, you might check it out. William Barr is also listed with an 1802 date - I assume that is when they were naturalized. They are the only two who show up on the search as specifically Washington County - I would bet because of the naturalization record. Lauren Ruth Tysor wrote: >Lauren: Thank you so much for your information. You spent a lot of time typing all that information for me. I appreciate it!! >Some of these "Johns" are much too young. 3. Hi George, No, I don't know of a connection. I have only the one name - Mary Barr - and the only connection I have for her is to my 5th great grandfather - Henry Trisler. I can tell you that the Trislers were a German family and other closely associated families included the Housers, Hoovers, Brunners, Rhorers and Cawbys. Do any of those names fit in with the Freaner name? I think most of these families (except for some Rhorers and one Trisler family that I can't connect to mine) left the Hagerstown area by around 1800 and settled in Jessamine County KY. To my knowledge, none of my family remained in Hagerstown after 1800. Sorry I couldn't help. 3. Ruth and other Barr researchers, I have been searching for information on the family connections of a Mary Barr who married Henry Trisler (variety of spellings) sometime before they settled in Jessamine County KY before 1800. My searches to date have been unsuccessful. It seems that Henry's family (father: Dr. Peter Trisler) came from the Hagerstown MD area to Jessamine County around 1789. When the Trislers arrived in America is not proven, although family legend says 1780 -- I suspect it may have been earlier. Supposedly, they arrived in Philadelphia and made their way to the Hagerstown MD area. Presumably, Mary Barr and Henry Trisler married in MD, but perhaps in PA or VA. Mary Barr Trisler was still alive and a widow on the 1850 census in Jessamine County KY; the record indicates that she was born in VA or PA about 1774. Does anyone by chance have a "stray" Mary Barr in your records? Thanks, Connie P.S. I don't think that Mary is related to the Robert and Thomas Barr associated with Transylvania College near Lexington KY in the same time period that she was living in Jessamine County, the county south of Fayette County where Lexington is located. You spent a lot of time typing all that information for me. I appreciate it!! Some of these "Johns" are much too young. I realize they could be siblings or ancestors of my Christopher. I'll keep all of it for reference. The marriage entry Chr./Barbara Toby 4/13/1809 was my Christopher. Their son, John was born 1 Apr 1810. I have full documentation on John up to present time. I have a bunch of Barr names who married about the same time Christopher and Barbara were. I wouldn't be surprised if they were'nt related. Hope I know for sure some day!! There were so many Barr families in PA that moved on to Indiana but my guy didn't seem to belong to any of them. I belong to the Barr surname list and don't seem to be able to make a connection on there either. If I could find out where he died I might learn something. I'll hit the LDS center tomorrow and do some more census searching. Thanks for your interest and desire to help. (I actually hear a rooster crowing off in the distance. What a delightful sound!!) 3. The two marriages are not necessarily mutually exclusive - he may have been married to the first person and she died and he remarried the Susan you are familiar with. [Women died in childbirth more frequently than now, for example.] I am missing the information by which you decided what Susan's maiden name was, I guess; how did you prove the relationship of Elizabeth Aldridge to this family? Otho seems to have been an "in" name for awhile - I think I've seen two or three men with that name during the early to mid 1800's in Washington County. I gave you what I found in my sources for Washington County. I do not have a complete library - that is not possible because there is information that can only be found in Maryland Archives or in the courthouse that has not been published. I only have 2 volumes of the 7 volumes of cemetery records, there are other probate records published, etc. I don't want you to mistakenly think that all the available sources of data have been accessed with my lookup. That is why I try to include dates in my sources - some are very limited. You might ask the list if anyone is researching the Albert family - you might find more information. Good hunting!
