There are a lot of Clems in the Shenandoah County area of Virginia. My Uncle Melvin Knisley born 1905 (by marriage) has Clems in his line from Virginia. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Donna Heller Zinn" <djzinn@pa.net> To: <MDWASHIN-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, March 25, 2005 12:08 PM Subject: [MDWASHIN] CLEM - CLEMM > Hello Fellow Listers: > > Anyone out there familiar with the CLEM - CLEMM families? > > Anyone have any information or documentation on a Michael CLEM (b.ca.1796 > d.unknown). Hello Fellow Listers: Anyone out there familiar with the CLEM - CLEMM families? Anyone have any information or documentation on a Michael CLEM (b.ca.1796 d.unknown). This Michael CLEM was living in Franklin Co., PA. during 1850 and 1860. He then dissappears from the census information. No Will or Administration or Orphan Court Dockets were found in Franklin Co., PA. for him. He presumably owned no ground as there was also no Deeds found. I have seen various other Genealogies for "other" CLEMM families. These families appear to have been from Virginia with references to some in Maryland also. No documentation has been gathered on those in Franklin Co., PA.. I am attempting to find a connection to the above listed Michael CLEM to those that were residing in Maryland and also Virginia. Anyone have any suggestions or info.? Thanks in advance! Donna Heller Zinn

is it the St John's Evangelical lutheran Church in lovettesville va. if it is it is still operating fyi my family attended there in the early 1800's jd beckley
Bill, Lookup from my resources: 1. There is nothing under either spelling in Estate Distributions 1776-1835 2. There is only one BECKETT in the marriage license index from 1799-1860 Humphrey/Rachel TYLER 9/19/1806 3. Bartgis Republican Gazette (pub. in Frederick Co.) Oct. 5, 1804 - a letter remained at the post office for James BECKET. I couldn't find anything further in 3 other volumes of newspaper extractions. 4. There is nothing in Vol. II and III (of VII) in Cemetery Records. Your BECKETTs are elusive in my resources. Sarah Davis and William Bateman were married at St. John's on 19 July 1825. Is any further info given in the church's records to indicate what town or village they came from, where their families lived, and any family who might have been witnesses to their marriage? Is the church still in existence? If so, where can one send to find further information? If not, who holds these records? Thank you for any help you can give to send me in the right direction. Hi. I am brand new to this list and am making my first posting. I am looking for information on the Humphrey Beckett (Humphy Backett) on the 1810 census in Conocoheague Hundred. I am reasonably sure that he is the Humphrey Beckett that I am looking for and now need to ask if anyone knows of a Beckett family in the area. My Humphrey married Rachael Tyler in the county in 1806, as I remember off of the top of my head. Any information concerning his family, parents, anything, would be very appreciated. Are there any archives that will look up records in their holdings that are available in the county? Thank you in advance Bill Dalton

Lauren, Thank you so much for your time looking up Slifer info.! The William J. Slifer, buried at Locust Grove Church, is the son of John L. and Amanda (Hutzel) Slifer. John L. & Amanda are my gg grandparents. We walked that cemetery 2 years ago & got pictures. We're going back next month, to Frederick & Washington Co., libraries & historical libraries, to see if we can find any more Slifer info (my family) and info on my husband's Smiths from Cavetown & Wolfsville. We are looking forward to the trip, and hopefully tying up some loose ends. Thanks again for the help and your time! John R. Fletcher, b. abt 1848, d. 1935, buried in Boonsboro, MD. Does anyone know who John's parents and/or wife were? Thanks for your help. --
Donna - SLIFER from my resources for your sorting pleasure. In the Marriage License Index for Frederick County covering 1778-1810, the only SLIFER entry is this: January 14, 1805 SLIFER, David to EASTERDAY, Julianna. In Feb. 1809 he forwarned people from trespassing or fishing on his property. The Torchlight of Oct. 29, 1822 has this SLIFER item: "Died of the prevailing fever, near the Maryland Tract, Frederick Co, John SLIFER, Sen. aged 79y 5mo 3 days." In a Feb 16, 1803 Maryland Herald Stephen SLIFER was living on the place where John SCHNEBLY formerly lived. In a Maryland Herald item of Oct. 26, 1806, "For sale, dwelling house of Stephen SLIFER, dec'd. on Ludwick Young's plantation, 2 miles from Hager's Town personal property of dec'd." In August of 1807 his executor, Jacob Bowe was requesting setttlement of accounts. In 1810 and in January 1811 Ezra SLIFER was selling flour in Boonsboro. In 1812 he was associated with a lottery to build a Boonsboro church and school. In 1813 he sold a tract of 103 acres adjacent Boonsboro. In the Frederick Town Herald edition August 14, 1807 Samuel SLIFER lived about a mile from Harley's store. From Washington County Distribution of Estate Accounts 1778-1835 are these entries: SLIFER, Stephen. Adm. Jacob BOVA 12/09/1807; heirs of Phillip, Mary CAUSETT each[amount]; 1/2 to brothers and sisters of Mary (1 brother, 5 sisters, one sister being dead). [amount] SLIFER, Ezra. Adm.
