    1. [MDWashin] Alexander Dyer and Rachel/Rachael Mobley
    2. Marilee Cunningham
    3. Does anyone know about a Rachael (Rachel) Mobley who married Alexander Dyer in Frederick, MD in Jan, 1821? I am trying to determine if Alexander was actually Alexander Dewar (the name was often misspelled). Alexander and Rachael lived in Loudon County, VA, and also had two children before 1821 so it's a mystery. I have looked everywhere for their marriage with no results in VA. I also looked for any Alexander Dyer in Frederick after 1821 to no avail, which makes me think it's possible they crossed over to MD to get married, for some reason two years after they had children -don't know how likely that would be. Thanks!

    2. Jim Bartholomew
    3. Richard, A few years ago I was told that there was some type of state "law" that the records have to be periodically checked for quality and that they are taken off for that purpose. How long they are off depended on what condition they were in or needed "repaired". Not sure if that is the reason this time or not. Perhaps someone else has newer info. 1. [MDWashin] WEISS (Wise, etc), PA, MD
    2. Dynasty Tree
    3. Hello fellow researchers, I wonder if there are any researchers who may have information pertaining to Peter WEISS / Wise etc. Peter's wife is Mariah. Peter was born in Germany, c. 1805, Mariah was born in Bethel Twp, Bedford Co, PA (now Somerset Co, PA), c. 1806. Information unknown regarding their deaths. At this time I believe they had 7 daughters, 2 son's, possibly more. Names of the children are unknown. Various members appear to have migrated from Bedford Co, PA (now Somerset Co, PA), Fulton Co, PA, Washington Co, MD and Allegany Co, MD. Would anyone have Peter and Mariah and any of their children in your tree? Any information that can be shared is deeply appreciated. Thank you for your time and any help offered. Fran

    3. Sorry, false alarm. I can't believe I never noticeed that though I searched for Frederick, MD, it came up Frederick, VA. Wishful thinking, but I had hoped Edward was in MD. 3. I meant Pughtown, FR, M, as this is a MD list. I guess I should have said so. The USGS site lists no Pughtown, which is why I am asking. I'm guessing that it once existed and has been changed to something else and I would like to know its general location. 3. Fr would be Frederick County. For those who might not be familar with Maryland counties, the original huge county was Prince Georges and from that Frederick County was formed and in time Washington County was formed from part of Frederick County. Even later additional counties to the West were formed. During all of this placenames changed from time to time. As I have said before the best way to try and locate these areas is via old maps. 2. Joan Majtenyi asked, "Does anyone know where Pughtown was in 1810? I have a census listing for an Edward Walker in Pughtown, FR." You did not say what you mean by "FR". The USGS Geographic Names Information Service states Pughtown was an alternate name of Gainesboro, Frederick Co., Virginia. Frederick County, VA is where one Edward Walker was head of household. To see it on a map, search here: _http://geonames.usgs.gov/pls/gnispublic_ (http://geonames.usgs.gov/pls/gnispublic) When you get search results, click on the place-name link at far left. The information page will have a list of map alternatives at upper right. This list is about Maryland, not Virginia. Good hunting, Judy

    1. Re: [MDWashin] Death Cert - Additional Info
    2. Tracy Mills
    3. Jim Look over the info posted. One was born June 1819 and one born December 1819. That's only 6 mos apart and nearly impossible to be born to the same woman. There would have had to have been a pregnancy within days after the birth of the first and the second would have been extremely premature. Not saying it was impossible just highly unlikely. You might want to look into that a little more. Also I have been researching in Washington county for one family and Baltimore and hardier counties for another family. Md is one of the worst states to try to research in, in my opinion! Their records are not the best kept. Prior to the late 1800's the records are spotty at best--especially for marriages. Just because u don't find the record doesn't mean there wasn't a marriage. I have one instance where a man was married 3 times (I have other proofs) and a marriage record only exists for his second marriage. I know this doesn't help a whole lot but just don't get discouraged. I am certain Philip is the father. However, the only marriage record I can find is to a Sophia Smith with a date of 4 May 1820 which is AFTER Jacob and Maria were born. Either both death records of Jacob and Maria are incorrect, or Philip could have been married to someone else before Sophia. Help from anyone who can shed light on Jacob or Maria’s mother would be greatly appreciated. > > Thanks, > Jim > > Jacob m. Sarah Shaff 26 Oct 1856 > Maria m. James W. Holmes abt 1854 > Rosanna m.
