Sam, Thanks, but Howard Edwin is a different son, born not in 1900, but ca. 1904. Henry Victor is the son I was asking about. I am interested in the children of Howard Newcomer Ankeney (1872-1953) and his wife Ella May Davis (1879-1943). In particular I'm curious about whether son Henry Victor Ankeney, b. 1900, and James Victor Ankeney, b. 1900, were one and the same person. Any help clarifying would be appreciated. Mike
Hope this will be of interest/help to some. Sam Just discovered that there's a website MennObits which "contains obituaries from the Herald of Truth (1864-1908), the Gospel Witness (1905-1908), and the Gospel Herald (1908-1998), the weekly newspapers of the Mennonite Church (MC) in North America. In addition, obituaries from The Mennonite (1998- ) have been added, as well as a few from the Mennonite Weekly Review (MWR)." http://www.mcusa-archives.org/MennObits/index.html

Ok folks I have gone thru all of the msgs etc that I received regarding the Hessians and here is the complete recap. It has been interesting and during the process I found another one mine and a living relative. While I have looked at the Hessian's before, I was struck as how many were actually involved and the number of regiments and I knew that George Washington's Army was over 25% Ulsterscots and the second largest group were Germans and between them they were 50% of his army On June 20, 1777 the Hessian Barracks were built in Frederick, Maryland to house these prisoners. I have been given quite a few names of German genealogical researchers and apparently most charge for their services, so you should ask in advance what their fee will be.The following are URL's to both researchers and to historical sites regarding the Hessian's. I hope that those who do so and find additional information will share it with the rest of us. http://www.argen.org/directory/searchresults.htm Hessian history located at Franklin & Marshall College go to: Johannes schaalm historical collection at F&M Genealogists: Roland Geiger in Germany at: [email protected] there sources: http://bobhudson.com/zeth/index.html http://www.feeths.org/links/germany.html http://silvie.tripod.com/hessian.html http://en.wikpedia.org/wiki/germans in the american revolutiion history.army.mil/reference/revbib/germ.htm Gordon Crooks

A flag of truce went to the enemy camp this morning. The Light Infantry was returned here from Gloucester at midday. A detail of Anbachers took detail at the Hornwork, under the command of Lt. Col. von Reitzenstein, during the absence of the Light Infantry. Private (Johan Simon) Kerr, Sr. of the Colonels company, while carrying out food to his comrades, was killed by a cannonball. Shortly thereafter a member of the Light Infantry has his head shot off. Private (Georg) Schmelzer, from the Major's company, deserted from a patrol. The enemy sent over a flag of truce. We do not know that they are related .... however, we assume as much since they came from the Leutershausen / Crailsheim area .... an area near Anspach. We also have a third Schmelzer who did not desert, served in another Hessian unit ... and was probably captured. He remained in America as well. His name was Johan Leonhardt Schmelzer. I have the wills/probate records that u reference and have copies from morrows cemetery books I have gone through and transcribed most of the land records that I could find which did provide a bit of info. I will look through the other resources you mentioned. I asked about German church records because I found a reference that one of Thomas's daughters (Elizabeth) married Peter tedrick in the German reformed church of clear spring but I can't find any info about this church or where it was etc. Thanks again Tracy Sent from my iPhone On May 20, 2013, at 11:57 AM, Lauren Brantner <[email protected]> wrote: > In Vol. 13 of the German Church Records there s only one Mills entry: > > John son of Jacob[?] and Cath. Hi. I noticed that some had accessed a volume of German church records. I'm wondering if you could check for MILLS for me? I know it's a broad scope so the first names I'm most interested in are: Thomas Michael Jacob William Eli (jah) Levi I'm researching Mills in the Indian springs area. Thomas was the father of Otho Mills but I can't find Otho's mother. By 1850 Thomas was married to a woman who would have been about 10 when Otho was born. I'm also trying to connect the dots of some of those early families. Thanks in advance Tracy

Would anyone on this great list have information about Jacob Hose, born about 1795 (per 1850 Washington County census). Married Elizabeth Fauckler (Fockler, Folkler and other spellings) 7 Feb 1818 and died 1860. The children I have been able to identify are Isabella, Elizabeth, Mary Ann, George, and William (there may have been others.) He owned property at Mt. Aetna near Cavetown. In the 1850 Census there are two Jacob Hose listings. The one I'm interested in lived in District 1 and was married to Elizabeth. He is my 3rd great grandfather. Any additional information would be very much appreicated, including his parents, etc. Many thanks to all for the help.
